Opinion on Hydreigon's eyes? Also general design aspect discussion. Point out a design trait from a Pokemon that you either like/dislike, whether it compliments the overall design or not, etc.

I think the eyes are my favorite aspect of Hydreigon's design. They don't leave room for much emotion, which complements Hydreigon's nature of a vicious Pokemon IMO.

I don't have an opinion on Hydreigon's eyes but I fucking hate the spikes on Lucario, as well as pretty much everything about Rhyperior.
I wonder if GF took the "overdesigned" shitposting circa gen 4 to heart, even though most of it was overblown; I don't think we've gotten anything as pointless or awful as those two.

The spikes were probably the only way they could convey the steel part of Lucario's typing. I think Empoleon did it better, as you could imagine its trident like crest and wings being as hard as style after a few glances

They could have just not made it a steel type, or given it Wolverine-style claws.
I always forget its a steel type anyway because spikes or no spikes, its design does a terrible job of conveying it.

When I look a hydreigon the last thing I notice is their eyes, zwelious does it better imo.
I don't like that most of the Sinnoh dex is blue or has some shade of blue and like >>37475200 says rhyperior is too overwhelming and feels clunky

I'm pretty sure Hydreigon's eyes look the way they do because they're severely underdeveloped. Its prior stages are completely blind, after all. Its vision is probably extremely simple and it may only be able to perceive things that are in motion, hence the dex entries about it responding to movement by attacking. I've always felt that Hydreigon has the most suffering built into its life cycle of any Pokemon, and to me the eyes highlight how its very existence must still be a struggle despite all the power it gained from evolving.

Mega Mewtwo Y is the most radical departure from the base form of any Mega, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I especially want to know why the Mewtwo variant with the most powerful brain is also the only one with a single neck. Did Mega Evolution cut out the middleman and move most of its organs to the head/tail thing?

When I think about a bad designed Pokémon the first one I think about is pic related.

As someone who likes most Megas, few to none are as nonsensically bad as Mega Sharpedo. For most of the others that people complain about I can at least think of a reason, be it a silly joke (Slowbro) or an homage to a different franchise (Aerodactyl, Tyranitar), but Sharpedo's Mega is something that I can only imagine getting past the drawing board if they didn't have a choice in the matter.

I undertstand it was suppose to look like a Gladitor's "skirt" but it always looked funny even as someone who likes it, maybe if it wasn't round and was more like kirla's skirt pushed down it would look better

yeah that's true, i hate hydreigon's tank treads and shitty feet but now i'm imagining zweilous literally tore its own limbs off before evolving. neat.

i think the idea behind mewtwo y is that its double neck literally snapped off because its physical power is traded for more blood flow to the brain. this is also symbolized by the purple "tail" leading directly to it. honestly all the megas are pretty faithful to the original line

Rathian/Rathalos from Monster Hunter. Some Pokedex entries that predate the first Monster Hunter games claimed that, in ancient times, Aerodactyl was "King of the skies". Later, Monster Hunter gave Rathalos (their flagship monster) the title of "King of the Skies" as well. Someone at Game Freak seems to have noticed this coincidence, because Mega Aerodactyl has the Rath's trademark wing spikes. However, the spikes on its face don't look anything like what you'd see on a Rathalos. Instead, those seem to come from the female of the Rath species, Rathian (whose title is "Queen of the Land"), though greatly exaggerated.

The teeth in the back of its mouth contribute to this, but making them skin compliment the tail fins, the notches in Sharpedo’s fins, as well callback to Carvanha’s teeth. Having the mouth fuse at its ends compliments how its eyelids fuse to make Sharpedo’s “gills”. The gills are also contrasted by the pairs of scars on Sharpedo’s fins.
The smaller X on its snout go with the notched scars on its jaw and fins. The large X on its snout goes with the jaw scar and the pairs of scars, as well as contrast the spikes on its snout. The spikes on its snout are also contrasted by the white area on Sharpedo’s pectoral fins and its eyes/gills.

I love Xatu. The totem pole-inspired art style translated really well into Pokémon’s while keeping a balance between the two. There is something very satisfying about its overall design I can’t describe; it looks very quiet and thoughtful just as its entries describe. I think I’m a big sucker for the Pokémon that seem to have some intrigue and lore, like Unown, Mew, and Sigilyph. I wish the mysterious side of the Pokémon universe was explored more in the games.

I love everything about this guy's design. He's a lightning gorilla/ogre/tiger.

I just hate how GF struggle to make him look as powerful and threatening as this is any official art. They just always make him look so goofy and it's such wasted potential.
