Pokemon Training in Gen 8

No.37645412 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
The stat point system needs to be redone completely this next generation. Any Pokemon transfer will need to go through an external app coming from a completely different system, so it's the perfect time to do it, stop carrying that garbage

>1. No more IVs
IVs aren't a good mechanic, they just make you throw away your story Pokemon and either breed for hours or hack them. Breeding would still be useful, for egg moves, natures, shiny hunting, maybe they can add new stuff like different textures based on the parents, etc.
>m-muh trick room
No one cares, you're still slow as hell without IVs and can reduce it with a Nature

>2. EV overhaul
So there's a new Effort bar, tied to a new icon reminiscent of Zelda's heart containers. You can see where this is going. The bar starts at 0 and maxes out at 130. Every time you fill the container, the bar rises by 1 and you get an extra stat point to use it on any other stat you want, after you spend it, the bar changes color letting you know if you have available points or not. You can raise a stat by a max of 64

>3. EV gain
vs. a lower level Pokemon: You get a quarter of the effort container by KOing an unevolved 3 stage Pokemon, half a container for the middle stage and a full container or stat point for the final stage. Two stage Pokemon start at half a container on the first stage, and Pokemon that can't evolve always give half a container.
vs. a higher level Pokemon: the effort gain doubles, so you get up to two stat points per KO.
Macho Brace and Pokerus further doubles this, so on optimal conditions you get 8 stat points per KO (vs higher level final evo with macho brace equiped and pokerus inflicted)
