And now that you guys have gotten to watch so many episodes back-to-back, has your viewpoint on certain things changed? I've seen a lot of comments from people that Brock actually wasn't that bad in Sinnoh like they originally thought while conversely, Misty arguably started losing her personality regardless of Togepi
also how many episodes did you guys miss of Sinnoh, I missed out on evil Togepi and Ash vs. Paul at the league cause of the shit schedule

I prefer XY ash to DP, but if I'm being honest with myself I like Dawn to Serena in terms of things happening. Serena does jack shit for like a third of XY. I do like both girls for being high fem as shit.

Clemont has his own growth as a character, but I like him and Brock about equal.

So whether or not I like DP more than XY really depends on the episode. If the Paul fight had as much polish as the Sawyer fight or XY in general, I would watch that shit weekly.

Yeah. XY has way better animation and good battles along with a stronger overall plot later while still being a lot of fun and having a good travelling group. But then it has stuff like Korrina's arc dragging too long, Serena literally not doing anything for 40 episodes, not as much fun random stuff, not as many fun side-characters, in a way Ash's defeat at the League is an even bigger disappointment.

I'm just a huge Dawn fag too so yeah.

I think XY is kind of bland, honestly. It tries to be a better show than past seasons, but ultimately loses a lot of the silly charm that makes Pokemon fun to riff on. Compare XY's silliest episode, the mirror world one, to some of the "what the fuck am I watching?" shit like the gay ray episode, evil Togepi, Lyra shamelessly advertising HGSS for an entire episode, Pikachu washing up on an island where a Corphish is trying to resurrect a Deoxys, a princess popping out of nowhere and going "hey Dawn I'm gonna steal your identity and enter a contest, you're cool with that right?", Meowth going rogue for a Glameow and soloing the heroes' entire party, and whatever other random shit Sinnoh felt like doing that day. When XY gets silly, it's usually a much more reserved silly, like Serena trying to pass as Ash.

I think it's because they're only showing Pokémon for 4 days of the week this time around. They still should have just split it into blocks because 4 blocks across 4 days, then just stick the movie on the fourth day after the episodes as part of the block.

For some reason I really liked the late night conversation Gary had with Ash right before the start of the Johto league.

No single Pokemon, but you can tell BW learned from Piplup, so the Pokemon are a lot more character-like than in any other season. The main BW Pokemon feel like a family who squabble and keep each other in check, but ultimately have each others' back. They each have their own dynamic with each other, so it's always entertaining just to watch them mess around.

Mamoswine by far. It stuck out like such a sore thumb on Dawn's team and still managed to do her proud in the contests. I wish they had done a story arc about it feeling like the odd man out once it evolved into a huge mammoth and wasn't as conventionally cute. Ash's Chimchar to Infernape. It's super satisfying to see Chimchar's development throughout the seasons to evolve into an Infernape and prove to Paul just how much strong he really is and gave him a big fuck you basically. Even if his power would have been equal to Electivire's without that Blaze ability, the battle was still hype as fuck regardless.

Right before the league, like 10 episodes before it starts, there's a tournament called the Junior Cup that gives closure to most of the major rivalries throughout the season. Even Ash and Iris get to have a big battle. A big reason the league sucks is because you can just tell the writers saw that as the final tournament and the league as an obligation.

Yeah after the League is over you basically have a whole Orange Islands saga attached at the end of BW. It doesn't help that Ash's biggest "rival" was defeated early and in a single-Pokemon battle.

It helps a lot that these threads are about 24/7 streams and thus are always focused on something airing right then and there. The general is fairly spam-free while episodes are airing as well, since lots of people are watching and posting and any dumb bait and spam just goes ignored because people have other things to comment on.

The worst part of the dub isn't even the voices.

It's the fucking dub music. I remember in battle frontier, one of the first few episodes dubbed by TPCi was about a crawdaunt attacking people and weird piano/violin music was CONSTANTLY playing.

DP does the same thing, especially in contests where an actual opening/ending song with lyrics is playing but the dub plays boring classical music. Another terrible offender is when Ash and Paul say goodbye. The Japanese version had the Jirachi wish maker instrumental theme playing, while the dub had generic "sad" music.

Yeah, I especially loved when Officer Jenny brought Squirtle back to him for the Johto league.

I still hope someday, somehow, Ash will see his Primeape again. It still drives me crazy that he let Primeape go in the exact same episode that Primeape had finally begun to love him. The tears in Primeape's eyes when Ash dove in to save him melted my heart.
