Gen VII's issue is that most of it's Pokémon don't even look like one.

Dhelmise, Drampa and Palossand look like they were from Yokai Watch

Bewear and Turtonator feel like a Dragon Quest monster

All those games ripped off Pokémon anyway, and before anyone wants to go ‘oh digimon came out around the same time to’ no it didn’t. The ‘game’ for digimon that came out was a damn tamagotchi. They saw how Pokémon blew up and swapped over to actually video games to copy them.

I personally enjoyed Gen 7's new Pokemon, especially Litten's line, the Popplio line, Toucannon line, Gumshoos is a good, the Vikavolt line (one of my all-time faves actually, Vikavolt is), Salazzle, Wishiwashi, Crabbrawler, Cosmog, and Buzzwole is one of the coolest Pokemon ever. Sure their names were easy to decipher and understand, and sure there were just a few new Pokemon introduced vs the other gens, but I personally liked it.

I will say that as a Poke-boomer, it's getting hard for me to immediately know what Pokemon is from which Gen. I can do this perfectly up and including Gen 4.

Even Ultra SM was had shit pacing because of cutscene bombardment
HMs replaced with mount are a terrible idea
The Islands were simply boring
Gyms replaced with Big Kahuna Burgers or whatever..
