How many one-time fights are in the mainline games that you can lose and not have to re-do the fight?

The only one that comes to mind is the optional rival fight on Route 22 in RBY/FRLG.

Until about a year ago I didn't know you teleported to a Pokemon center or whatever.

Didn’t have to redo anything, but I was caught off guard by Cynthia in the B/W postgame. My team was only maybe a couple levels higher than they were when I first completed the game.

There's a Team Flare boss guy with a Malamar which caught me off guard because I didn't know what contrary was so I ended up increasing his Malamar's attack and speed by a few stages, it then sweeped my entire team with superpower, kind of embarrassing with how easy XY is.

Not gonna lie, I lost to the Team Plasma leader guy (I wanna call him Cyrus? Is that right?) in the weird walk-on-walls dimension in Platinum yesterday. It's such a fucking trek back to that place from the pokecenter that I've pretty much given up on the game.

Sun and Moon I was doing some post-game pokeradar hunting and TM fetching and the Zygrade people ambushed me on Poni island when I had a team full of shitters under level 30. I restarted and lost a few hours worth of grinding as well as the pokeradar catch and a few other things.
Everyone else in the game with a little cutschene like that asks if you're ready to battle, but not those assholes.

I do this too, but not because of anger, I just don't like to get blacked out cause I considere it a Game Over of sorts. That's why I always try to save before something important happens, and I could care less if I need to start 3 hours over like OP. I haven't done this with the newer gens tho, way too easy.

I hate it when you die at the end of a route with many trainers, cutscenes, puzzles and wild pokemon and you have to redo it all. But 3 hours? Worst I did was just forget to save a few tines and turn it off. On emus I have lost a lot of time tho. Because it used to be saving and state saving worked so thsy your ingame save was tied to state saving. So if you loaded some previous state your ingame saves made after it are now gone.

This is precisely why you should just be saving regularly.

Most games are designed in a way where discerning that you're coming up on something happening is obvious so you've got to be pretty dense to not save as you're walking up to it.

All this does is make me think you don't play anything but Pokémon. Some games have shit that you can miss in every chapter so if the game allows I'll have several save points, up to one for each chapter so I can go back if I find out I missed something.
