>>38103742No, I like it because it was unironically Pokemon at its peak, especially after Best Wishes.
>character designAsh’s XY design was the best he’s ever had. A more slimmer and toned look, with the updated art style giving more detail in the designs, that’s where the “fingernails and sideburns” shit comes from. His overall look comes off much older and combined with his personality and dialogue, you had a more mature Ash and combining that with his major competency throughout the region, XY Ash was the ideal Ash that the fan base has been crying for, for ages.
And this goes for other characters too. The writers took creative liberties with the character design, with the most infamous being Serena’s redesign. The side characters, game characters, and the non-generic looking COTD’s just made the whole series pop more than ever.
>writingPokémon anime has never been the holy grail of storytelling, but it was clear the writers wanted to go for a more story centric series. There were dozens of story arcs, different takes on character development like Clemont and Korrina leaving and joining the cast respectively, the Mega Evolution side stories, and the overarching Team Flare + Zygarde plot. It was all just really entertaining and fun to keep up with
>battlesThe highlight of the series and the reason why it took off so well. The battles combined with the updated art style, better writing, and bigger take on animation just made them look better than they ever have and choreographed as if was like watching an episode of Dragon Ball or Naruto. Hell, Tripokalons were basically Contests on steroids, and that’s all because of the animation and screenplay from the writers.
I don’t know why so many people on /vp/ shit on this series and act like it didn’t put the Pokémon anime back on the map after the BW fiasco. It was a rollercoaster ride of entertainment and I suggest anyone who are on the fence about the anime overall to give it a shot.
