Everyone noticed how broken the special stat and the psychic type were. Why do you think everyone had a kadabra (or alakazam for the lucky ones) in their adventure team?
Not only that but bug types were utterly worthless due to the lack of "not absolute shit" attacks.

Sadly I believe the best Gen of them all would be Gen 2, not only did it give us two regions it created a larger dynamic for Kanto to work off and in the end it worked out better, with many unique pokemon added to gen 2 with interesting lore yet not blatant was amazing. You get a true Yin Yang from Gen 2, A Modern Cityscape like area - Kanto then a more Rural Country like grounds - Johto all next to each other.

Johto was well into in development before RB came out in the US and printed money. Hell, the spaceworld demo came out a whole year before the US saw anything from Pokemon in 1998, even the anime which came out 5 months before RB.

They really were. Its one of the reasons why newer is not always better. The attack sounds in Gen 1 just have this really raw sound that works great. I love the sounds of attacks like bubblebeam, hydro pump, psychic, etc.

Lol at all these genwunners on damage control. Gen 1 is great for the foundation it laid but it's not nearly as polished as newer games. Gen 1 is also fun because you can exploit the glitches/flaws.

I don't believe graphics matter, but if the graphics were objectively improved, then the game is better. That's not even to mention all the other changes, most notably: Sevii Islands, New Pokemon, Balancing, Bug Fixes, etc.

I personally don't like some of the stylistic decisions they made. They used way too many trees, which gives a kind of claustrophobic feel, and I think the color palette is a bit too overly colorful. I personally think FR/LG has the sort of cheap update look in the vein of Super Mario All Stars. Its just tacky looking.
