>>38551390The fact that the Totems have actual higher stats and support Pokémon with movesets specifically designed to support them by healing and buffing them or countering obvious strats/typing you would bring is fantastic and already sets it a bar above the legends and Gym fights of previous gens.
Many Gyms would just have you fight Shitmon 1, Shitmon 2, Shitmon 3, and then the Actual Threat, with little strategy involved. And this meant you could pretty much set up and sweep almost every Gym in the series if you were knowledgeable enough.
Gen 5 was probably the closest thing to an exception, where Gyms would have a bit more strategy to them (Roxie using Poison-inflicting moves with one Pokémon, to Venoshock sweep with the next, Elesa's infamous Volt Switching and Ground immunity, ect)
But even that is nothing compare to actively having to fight a buffed enemy with a Support to heaf/buff it more/chip away at you too.
Seriously, the strides Totem Pokémon made for boss fights in the series is so underappreciated, and I am going to be sad if they don't try and learn and continue that path in future games. If they just go back to straight 1v1's again, then it'll be a huge step down, I don't care if people prefer the concept of gyms, we at least need the bosses to feel that uphill again.
