So, I was pulling some weeds out of my garden and pulled this little guy right up out of the dirt. Thankfully, it doesn't seem upset.

ACTUAL gardener here, don't listen to these other guys. That's a petlil. It's a weed, however, many people keep it in their garden because it evolves into a more beautiful flower. It can, however, take over your entire garden if you aren't careful. If you want to get rid of it, all you have to do is spray it with some repel. It may sound weird, but repels can act as a weed killer for specific pokemon like this one.

That's a meloetta. They can get annoying, especially if they don't hear any new music. Contrary to popular belief they're not a wellspring of originality, they actually generally like to copy what they hear and just change the chord progression and tempo around to fake a new song. Even if they do have a large source of new music they pretty much sing non stop in my experience when they're not asleep so I've repelled a few wild ones when they come near my house.

More specifically fairly close to this one city about 1100 miles south of Unova where a lot of rock and roll artists got their start in the fifties. Heard a rumor from grandpa that a small handful flocked down here back then because they liked how different rock and roll was from classical. On the other side of me is a place famous for country music, but they've been producing hot garbage for a while now so I doubt they're the reason for all the meloetta.

That explains the apparent unoriginality. Groups of Meloetta tend to try and harmonize with whichever one is the leader, who will just use some melody they all know.
When in a pair they’ll tend towards singing in counterpoint.

Holy shit, do not challenge two psychic types to ping pong. You will be crucified.

They also keep taking the game super seriously like they're playing children's card games or something.

And yes, I have introduced them to children's card games once and for an entire match I think they played against Girantina and Yvelta with my soul on the line.

Rode on my Torterra today with my girlfriend. Our lives are kinda tough right now, both of us kind of have abusive parents, so we enjoy these little moments together. I've been taking care of this grass 'mon since I was 10, even though I wasn't able to go out and become a trainer. Found him as a Turtwig in the woods with a crack on his shell. The crack eventually became his mountain, so his one mountain isn't as big as other Torterra have.

My Treecko also really gets along with him well, and he's very friendly to most other pokemon, letting them sleep and make nests in his tree. Though, I can't let just anyone make a nest in there. I have to shoo away Flechlings, because if they nest, they're gonna evolve and set his tree on fire. He gets annoyed whenever I have to shoo them away, because he's honestly really friendly, and always wants to help out those in need.

It's probably why I've been hanging out with him a lot lately. Kinda need an escape form my house, because I can't stand to hear one more conspiracy theory about how Super Potions are poison and how we should be using fresh water instead. He's always good company and a good listener whenever I need to vent. I don't know how much he understands, but he knows when I'm feeling down and tries to cheer me up whenever he can.

Thanks Torterra. I hope I can take you with me whenever I move out.

Build a treehouse in it, bro. Or even just a tiny home, those things are great for small families. You'll have to anchor it with rope though, I'd probably recommend a pop-up tent for the short term that doesn't need guy ropes.

Train with your friends with your Golett. It won't win constantly against your friends until it gets good. Since it's a ghost type, it can phase through things once it learns Phantom Force, so you can make it so most of Torkoal's attacks don't hit it.

I have a question, I am a chef, and catering with a Simisear is easy, he seems to have a knack for flavour and is all round helpful in the kitchen, but he gets so aggressive toward one of the Lombre that help with the waiting staff.

I mean technically he's a rescue, got him randomly from a GTS malfunction and was told to keep him, this was when he was young, barely hatched I reckon. He grew well and quickly, and got on with my two Persians well enough. Tis why I am so confused, do you reckon he could have been abused?

Still, it depends on whether your Meowth likes you and how much freedom you give them. My grandfather had a Meowth that loved to steal buttons, and enjoyed hoarding them underneath his bed.

My dad took out me out to the wild and let me pick a Pokémon he would catch for me. Eventually I settled for Ralts and he even let me throw the pokeball at it. I don't remember why I picked that one in particular, maybe it's just that most of the other Pokémon there were just boring normal types while Ralts was Psychic Fairy. My dad also brought home TMs a few times and let me use them, thunderbolt and shadow ball carried me through a good portion of my gym challenge.

I found this lil' blue lad, a Totodile I think, all beat up and unconscious while walking home. Me and Hydreigon rushed to a Pokemon Center to get him all patched up. Apparently, most of his injuries were from blunt force. He was put in a Poke Ball, but I'm just leaving him out.

After that, we went back home to feed him (He seemed a bit malnourished). Hydreigon's watching him while I type this, so do I just have a Totodile now? What should I do to make him less nervous, or will he just get more comfortable over time?

recently my beloved Charzard passed away after a fatal head injury took her life

she was my original starter from when i was 10 when she was just a little charmander

i remember all the training we did in the grassy fields and buying her treats when she finally got a move right

and after ever successful gym battle i bought her cake just for her to eat just to celebrate with the little money i had at a young age and after finally winning at the League championships i stole some booze just for the two of us to share

i remember the hard times when we would sleep in creepy ass caves because we couldn't afford a hotel and didn't want to sleep on the streets and her fires would keep us warm at night or worrying about running into team rocket or some other group on our travels

all of this feels like such a long time ago when the world was full of wonder with pokemon

and now it feels as if that last bit of magic left in my world has died with her and no amount of tears will bring her back to me

she will be greatly missed

It helps to find natural predators or Pokemon that you can bring into your yard, help them establish themselves, and then from there they'll help you in return by keeping those pests away. I life in a very mountainoes area with a huge snorlax population. They often block the already slim mountain paths and sometimes even the railway. I am the guy who wakes and relocates them. Got called to a bridge a snorlax was blocking again. Woke him up with my flute. And my own snorlax convinced him to move to a big open field right at the river. Most of the snorlax in the area know me and calmly wander to safer location without making trouble. The payment is shit, but the villagers and even the gym leader are very thankful. A few weeks ago I rescued a Drifloon who got cought in a tree.
It joined me and I hope to evolve it soon, maybe a Drifblim can help me spot Snorlax faster.

I miss our gym. Sure, it was a degenerate shithole, the floor was full of holes, people fucked their Pokémon in side rooms, the basement was filled with rabid female Pokémon and tormented souls, the gym puzzle - if we ever tried to assemble one - never worked and we had no leader other than someone sometimes stepping up and battling with a team suggested by the rest of us, but it felt like home. A very disfunctional home, but home nonetheless.

I found him as an egg in a stream. Picked him up, put him on some of the sand in my backyard next to the water, and he hatched on August 14, 2014. I was 13 at the time and had a lot of experience raising Pokémon but none catching or caring for individuals, especially not Squirtle, since I lived on a farm that kept miltank and tepig.

My neighbor, who I'd been friends with since we were about 5 or 6, found a Pichu in the wild at about this time. He waited a day or two to make sure its parents weren't around (Pikachu aren't common around here), then befriended it and later caught it. They keep her out of her ball as a family pet that doubles as a backup self defense weapon.

Pichu and Squirtle ended up being together fairly often and they go into the woods fairly often. They usually run off at night in a bid for us not to notice, but we know.

So the Pichu (which they nicknamed Fluffball, they should meet up with the guy last thread who had a Sylveon named Fluffball) evolved in 2017 to Pikachu and seems to be trying to become a Raichu, but my Squirtle is five this August and is still a Squirtle. Kinda derailing the topic I suppose but does anyone have any idea why?

Part 2: I never actually officially caught him, he and I just kind of live together. Whenever I take him to a hospital I usually have to bring comprehensive proof he's my Squirtle before they'll let me take him home. I don't think I ever will catch him. It's been long enough that doing so now would be kinda weird, and I'm not a super big fan of capturing anyway.

It's always giggling and changing into things. Like earlier today it was my hat for a full half hour before it turned back and showed me where my actual hat was hidden. I knew it was ditto but I played along: It giggled the whole time. Good times.

Typical fur care. Just make sure to be gentle with the tails, if you're the ninetails' owner, you should be able to touch them without getting cursed, just do it as softly as possible so that it doesn't hurt it.

Just when I thought that I would go to sleep for the night, Squirtle had the bright idea to try to get on the countertop to get at a Basculin sandwich I forgot I left out and broke his left leg. From the sound of it it's really bad, he can't stand up at all. Will update when I get to the vet.

Got to the vet. Squirtle was crying all the way there, while my clefairy Pippi was singing to try to calm him down. He didn't get a lot of mileage, I thought it sounded fine but I guess there's only so much attention you can divide between a Clefairy singing and your own leg searing with pain. Thought up a nickname for him, going to start calling him Seafoam unless anyone here has any better ideas. 5 years is a little late, I know, but hopefully he'll get used to it in time if he likes the nickname.
I carried him to the front desk like a kid and he's still up there, the vet is busy with someone else. I imagine it'll be an hour or so before he's ready to see me. Seafoam yawned and is trying really hard to not to fall asleep but it doesn't seem to be working. Got two little kids asking me about him, apparently the green shells are rare on squirtles? They're not exactly very common on the North American continent, so I didn't know this. One of them is wearing that red and white patrol cap I asked about last thread. Seems like one of those gym challenge types, had a couple badges pinned to it.
Hopefully he doesn't wake up in pain.

A representative in my region is trying to institute a metric of intelligence so that we can stop criminalizing this shit when it's with 'mon of a certain level or higher on the chart or whatever. Got a call in the middle of the night, a wild snorlax was blocking a slim mountain path. Grabbed my stuff and drove up there. A line of honking cars stand on the other side of the snorlax, I tell them to be quiet while I wake and relocate it. Wake snorlax with my pokeflute, of course some asshole honks his car and the waking snorlax got angry. Nearly Hyperbeamed the shit out of the parking cars, had to use my own snorlax to calm the wild one down. People really underestimate those sleeping giants, they can get really angry. Luckily nothing bad happend. Also I have the feeling my Drifloon will evolve soon. It got quite strong.

Hey look it isn't barbaric, they prepare the Pokemon well, they kill them painlessly before cooking. If it was such a bad thing then the police would have came down on those chef guys already. But then again, the police don't really patrol that neighborhood, and when they do the chef guys stay locked up in their house. Probably nothing.

I say be open to trying new things, that Miltank souvlaki is the best fucking thing ever man, my Riolu loves it.

I have and all the ones I've met were intolerable, they only wanted to play pranks. I knew a guy who got all his windows shattered by them pulling some prank involving a Loudred. Honestly it isn't that big of a loss when those chef guys cook some Weaviles. Besides, there's very many of them here in Sinnoh anyway.

Ok, I know this isn't really the place to post about medical problems, but I'd like to know if any of you guys have dealt with this before.

Just got home from the pokecenter. Apparently it's pokepox, which is similar to the one humans can catch. The nurse said all Pokemon go through it once in their lifetime, however older ones struggle more than the young Pokemon, and my Lapras is fairly young. The nurse gave me some stuff to relieve the symptoms. If everything goes ok, it will go away in roughly 2 weeks.

Growlithe keeps eating out of the meowthbox and I cant figure out a way to make him stop.

Have you tried battling with your Squirtle? The fire-grass-water triangle isn’t actually the primary reason for the starter choices in each region being what they are, it’s the fact they all form strong pair bonds and evolve as a reaction to stress and stimulus instead of just being a part of their life cycle. Makes them perfect first partners. Chances are your buddy is so laid back there’s no biological need to evolve into Wartortle.

I'd catch him just to have it on record. You can be like me and keep them out of their ball at all times, but it helps to have that registration if someone tries to swoop in and nab him. Team activity is on the decline, and maybe I'm paranoid, but one can never be too sure.

Trainer battles are, for whatever reason, a better source of experience than just wild Pokémon. Something about beating not just the Pokémon, but the human trainer. A lot of this comes from a place of ignorance. I personally have nothing against people who get this close to their Pokémon as long as it’s consensual -and they CAN give consent by sheer virtue of being able to understand our language- but a lot of these problems can be solved by understanding your pokemon’s physical needs better. They’re intensely physical and affectionate creatures just like us and they have needs. If your Pokémon is registered to you, it can’t be caught. Every spring I set my partner loose for a week or two and she comes back calm and happy. If she has a repeat partner it’s not something that can breed her, so even better, I don’t have the budget to deal with eggs. Don’t give yourselves too much credit, most of the time if your Pokémon are jumping you they’re agitated and have nothing better to choose from.

Libraries stock some old shit, so that might have been wicked outdated. When my 'mon decided he wanted to stay with us, we got a ball and registered it under my mom's ID.
I was like 3 at the time, so I didn't have an ID. When he was transferred to my ID years later, I asked the Nurse what the registry thing was all about, and it's for two things:
Legal accountability for the trainer, and balls should reject a 'mon that's already registered.

It's 100% worth it IMO, but like I said, maybe I'm just paranoid.

Every now and again my friends and I will go bug catching. I personally think bugs are the coolest pokemon. A few years back, we took a vacation to the Unova region. There was this place called Relic Castle that was rumored to hose a rare bug pokemon, Volcarona. It seemed too good to be true, we felt like we were walking in circles! Then we finally saw her. we took out our Ultra Balls and started throwing. Took us about 30 minuets but we did it! Here's a pic of her.

Oh sure, it's not ridiculous to let your growlithe out during their season, but consider "starters". Super socially compatible with humans, which is why we trust them with kids who are starting a journey (well, the ones who can afford shit like that).
It's not unheard of that kids and their starters growing together during formative parts of their lives can lead to taboo results, and it tends to be more than unchecked seasonal lust that makes that happen. I think I read that starters are fairly high on that scale thing, which makes sense.

I think the point of it is just to draw attention to the fact that sometimes you've got a legitimate relationship on your hands and that should be the LEAST of the police force's concerns.

I'm almost certain that's not how it works. If you try to catch a Pokemon that's already been caught, your ball will be able to tell, and it won't capture the Pokemon.
That said, I remember hearing about some incident in Orre a while ago where someone made a machine that could snag other people's Pokemon, even if they'd already been caught. I'm pretty sure that technology never left Orre, though. At least, I hope it never did.

I would just put him in a pokeball ASAP. Even if you’re not a registered trainer he’ll be registered to the pokeball until a Trainer ID can be generated and he’ll be safe from the kind of assholes who’d try and catch what is obviously someone’s partner. Not a court case you can’t win, but one you should try to avoid.

I've just been assigned to the new Special Investigation Team being set up in Hearthome. I'm currently with the Community Safety Department in Floaroma, so this will be quite the change for me. Going from basically just community outreach in a sleepy town to rapid response raids on terrorists and Pokephiles is daunting, but it's for the best.
I've currently got a Luxray and a Mightyena, but all SIT members are required to have at least 3 Pokemon. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking it might be nice to have a Pokemon that can inflict sleep, but beyond that I don't really have any ideas.

So /vp/, how did you come across your first Pokémon? If your story for that isn't too exciting you can share any interesting way you got a Pokémon to join your team.
I was born and raised in Unova. When I was 5 years old, this close friend of my dad's (both of them used to do some research for local professors) had started a backyard-breeding operation, he had a bunch of Pokémon that professors sometimes hand out to kids that want to start the journey to become trainers. I think he had a mating pair of Feraligatrs, Typhlosions and three Venusaurs, on top of their litters of babies running about . He invited my dad and I to check it out, and... to be honest it was kind of depressing. His backyard didn't have enough room for them, it was pretty filthy, and all of his grown Pokémon seemed exhausted. My dad probably started giving him some shit for this, but since I was just a kid, I was more interested in playing with the Pokémon. I was too scared to go near the adults, and they did look grumpy, but the babies were ok. They didn't pay much attention to me, but weren't aggressive either.
That's when I notice a tiny (even for their standards) Cyndaquil, huddled and hidden between some trash cans. I approached him, and it shuddered and whimpered (tried to back away but couldn't, because of the fence behind him), so I sat down and did my best to convey I didn't mean any harm. Eventually he came out and started sniffing me, and to make things short, by the time my dad told me we were leaving, we were best buds. He refused to stop following me, and after my dad tried to set him down too many times, mama Typhlosion a few feet away from us actually got up and gave a pretty pissed-sounding roar and glared at my dad. Cyndaquil came home with us that day.

I found a Zubat sleeping beneath our house's rafters one afternoon after coming from school. My parents had (and still have) a no-tolerance policy with wild mon living anywhere on their property, so I took pity on the guy and shooed it away before they came home, but he kept showing up every day. It was by then that I was getting interested in training though, so I had a friend of mine sneak me a Pokéball in school, and I caught what is now a Crobat I've owned for 13 years.

Funnily enough, I would catch a Zigzagoon, Joltik and Scraggy (all now evolved and with me) throughout the years in basically the same way; Catching them out of pity when they appeared before my parents beat them out of the house.
