>>38768752>spend time in their discord (yeah they use discord now lmao)God, I hate this. How well you get along with others isn't a reflection of how well you can or can't do your job.
Some years ago in TF2 there was this server where every mod was an idiot that would only ban people they simply didn't like, and let friends of theirs scot free even if that had broken the rules. Since I loved that sv I started "moderating" on my own, simply by telling people to stop and being firm about it, and did a damn good job at that. The main admin eventually took notice and wanted to immediately promote me, but said he couldn't because "first you have to join our TeamSpeak server and see how you do when talking to everyone". I did but they were all playing Dota so they ignored me, and once the "trial" was done they told the admin I didn't socialize with them. I told him they were all busy playing and weren't even reading the chat, fully knowing he had arranged for me to be there specifically to meet them, but then he "then you should've plugged your mic in and encouraged them from outside the game! Be a cheerleader for them, show you care about their happiness if you wanna be part of the team!". What fucking autism was this, jesus christ. What did that have to do with being a good mod or not, all that matters is that you can do your job well, not being a fucking cheerleader.
I eventually opened up my own sv which ended up being way more successful and theirs closed, so happy ending I guess.
Thanks for reading my blog, tune in tomorrow for more.
