I noticed watching footage of the demo that the badge given seems kinda small for the case it is in.

Even if I adjusted for perspective so 8 badges fit the outer ring, there is still a large empty section in the middle.

Im wondering if there might be more than 8 badges this time around. It looks like a generic coloured version of the gym logo matching the type, so perhaps theres one for each type?

Nigga of course they won't.
My guess is that the first 7 badges will fill the ring with different shapes, forming the shape of the final badge in the middle.

Thus, when you have all the badges, they form one big medallion/badge.

I don't see where people get the idea there's 8 gyms in Galar

the official map clearly shows there's only 5 gyms in the region

the badge ring is meant to look like a football ball. each black pentagon will be a badge, so there's 5 badges + an extra badge (for becoming the champ?) in the middle

there's a gym in the steampunk town, we saw the gym symbol, not every gym HAS to be a stadium...why would they take away the "8 gyms" formula to make less of them?

The fact that theres always been 8 gyms/trials in the games is probably why

and the official maps often dont show everything since they tend to be a bit stylized, the scale of some areas is off. It works as a reference but shouldnt be taken as exact

Not every gym is the same.
In the first direct for the game, we actually saw that the big central building of the red city has the League logo on it like the other gyms do, meaning it's most likely a gym.

5 same-y stadium type gyms for the outer towns and 3 unique gyms for the 3 massive cities on the map (red city, dragon fortress, London) makes sense.

I only pieced that together quickly i didnt adjust the badges for perspective. But as I said in my post, The fact that there is that large star shaped gap in the middle might hint that theres more going on than just 8 gyms

if they went as far as showing 5 gyms already, it's clear that gyms are important enough to appear in the map over minor stuff, even if it's stylized. If the map shows only 5 gyms, it's because there's only 5 gyms

the bottom one has the dynamax logo, so it might be some kind of battle facility

Check again.
This one has the same circular symbol as the stadiums, it's just hard to tell cause it's color is white/grey.
Steel or Normal type final gym in London will be pretty hype.

And there's no way there's not a gym in the steampunk city. Again, the map doesn't show everything. In the first direct, when they had a guy talking with that city in the background, you could clearly see the League symbol on the huge central building behind him.
Someone's gotta have the screenshot, but if not I can go back and find it.

Also, what you're calling the "Dynamax symbol" actually the League's symbol, it's just designed after Dynamaxing.

Id believe its more likely 8 around the outside and then something in the middle, whether thats another 8 smaller badges or 4 badges to mark the elite 4 is unclear

It does seem like something goes there though, we just have to wait and see what

The outer towns/cities have generic stadiums. Those are the 5 that look alike on the map.
But the 3 big cities of the map (the red city, dragon fortress & London) all probably have unique gyms.

The whole point of gyms is that they're located in major cities/towns, especially here where gym battles are a huge industry. Do you honestly think the three biggest cities on the map wouldn't have gyms?

Alright, went back and got the screenshot.
It's right there behind him. see that huge structure that seems to have an open top and a big ass League symbol on it?
That's the gym of the red city.
Going by the leak, that must be where "Kabu" is. Which would make sense since the leak said Kabu's trail is catching Pokemon and his city is located right next to the Wild Area.
The map makes it look weird cause everything on the map is smushed. The snowy town looks VERY different from how it is on the map. Same goes for the red city being way bigger and more intricate than the map lets on.

How is that symbol different from the ones on the stadiums?
Also yes, cities can have purposes in the game besides gyms. But these are MASSIVE cities. Has there ever been a huge city in Pokemon that didn't have a gym?
