There's a difference between the GO crowd and the mainline people. It might not kill pokemon since people will still throw money at Go and gatcha but it might kill GF as nobody will buy main series anymore.

Gamefreak has the exact statistics to know how many people transfer their pokemon so I'm pretty sure they took this whole backlash into account. It's only the hardcore fans that will boycott this game but the majority of normies don't bother with transferring. I know my normie friends don't give a shit and will buy these games anyway.

they obviously didn't, since they chose the worst possible time to deliver the news - at e3, just a few months before the game comes out.
this is the type of news you quietly reveal on a friday afternoon a year ahead of time so that the outrage dies down before you start hyping the game up.
