i.e Pokémon caught early on in-game that you use more than your actual starter.
Pic related is my personal favourite. Its Intimidate is pretty great.

Male Nidoran in my case, in Yellow

But both were common starter replacements, considering how the first gym goes with double kick. Momentum just builds from there.

Not sure if it counts.
But this magnificent bastard it's insanely useful in Gale of Darkness.
You can kill almost everything in the game with just Return, Lick and Metal Claw.

Shinx and Starly are a pretty based Sinnoh duo, especially when it evolves into Staravia and also gets intimidate for double attack lowering.

They really are though.
Especially since Shinx learns Leer at an early level; lowered Attack+lowered Defense = based combo.
& Intimidate is stackable every time they're switched out.

I dropped Serperior in favour of Lilligant in White and never looked back, she's amazing and even though neither have great move pools quiver dance and petal dance was more than enough to bring down most threats

Similar, I dropped my Serperior for Leavanny in Black and he was great. I never regretted it one bit, besides, the whole line is simply the cutest.

This, Alolan Meowth, Tsareena and Wishiwashi are all amazing in their own right. I'd play through SM again if not for the 60,000 hours of cutscenes.

Playing through Red on VC for the first time, I wanted to use a Nidoqueen in place of a Nidoking (since he gets all the love and I've personally always liked Nidoqueen a bit more) and by god she's outleveling my Ivysaur because she just kills everything in one hit with body slam.
