>>39106470This was me a few weeks ago. I had skipped a bunch of Pokemon games and played others only as Japanese raws, so I thought it might be fun to learn a bunch of new stuff at once via USUM.
I also remember thinking "hey this typically annoying sidekick Rotom isn't as bad as I thought it would be".
I'm now at what I assume is gonna be the first big climax of the game (no spoilers ahead) and some grievances *have* begun piling up.
Rotomdex lines seem to have increased in frequency. I don't remember it constantly giving me the same small rotation of "Info you didn't ask for" tips, and it's been frequently bugging me with "wanna search your bag for healz?" when just one of my Pokemon got hurt.
The really annoying part about that is that these lines can't be skipped or fast-forwarded with a-clicks/touches and they block your minimap while they're going on.
The cutscenes have gotten a little worse tho not by much I'd say.
Many of the early cutscenes were part of tutorials and discovering new mechanics, so I didn't mind them slowing down the game because while they were playing I was thinking about stuff like "Oh, are these like HMs? I wonder what other ride Pokemon you'll meet".
Currently however the cutscenes are mainly dedicated to story and characters, which are quite basic compared to the length that cutscenes will go to to illustrate them. Kuzco's_poison.txt basically.
I want to say that's a target audience thing, but I think it's pretty common for young adult Japanese media in general. So if you've built a resistance from watching shonentrash in the past, this may not bother you very much.
There are also some sections of the game where an NPC ought to follow you from area to area, but because Nintendo cannot into characters *actually* following behind the player, there's a little establishing cutscene every time the NPC reaches a new part of the map "with" you.
I can see how all that unskippable stuff would be a pain on consecutive playthroughs.
