There's very limited wild pokemon in XD, and non in Colosseum; you catch specific pokemon from trainers by stealing them. Also the entire game is double battles, which really sold me on doubles (other than the slog through the single player, I exclusively play doubles now). It can be kind of clunky going back to 3rd gen now and playing without the special/physical split, or doubles where switch in on faint happens immediately and not at the end of the turn (you could potentially KO four pokemon in one turn in doubles in 3rd gen), but they're definitely worth a play for at least a few hours to see if you like them.
