Most of them aren't really ones I'd consider "favorites" but more like "the options are so few that this is just my favorite of the small selection". But of course some of them I do love.

Still though, it IS surprising just how few middle evolutions there actually are in certain types. Dark only has 2!

I can't think of many middle evos I like more than either of their counterparts, but Haunter is the one I thought of. Definitely the best ghost out of Gen 1 or 2 and the one that feels most representative of the type, in my opinion.
Just look at this goofy ghost and tell me you don't love him.

Grovyle is a clever mix of leaf-tailed gecko and feathered theropods with leaves being the feathers

2. I like bug types and this is the strongest middle evo bug type; most others are just chrysalis forms that only increase in BST by +10 from the starter. This monster has 400 which puts it among most fully evolved bug types.
3. Has a signature ability, which I believe makes it the only 2nd evo to have one, and makes the whole line the only 3 stage line to all have different abilities.
4. Was with me in my initial Moon playthrough for a long time due to Vikavolt's weird evolution method.

Eelectross is great but there's something so simple and sleek about the middle evolution. While Tynamo is "cute" and Eelectross is straight up "cool", Eeletrik is both cute and cool. I understand why the majority go to Eeletross of course, it's amazing, but Eelektrik is great too.
