>an "essential" featureBasically, no one ever thought pokemons would ever be in risk, yeah the games were shit in a lot of ways since X/Y and even before them they had flaws but all of them had ALL the mons, a feature that would never be disposed of, it was just natural, "gotta catch em all" so you gotta have em all, it was part of pokemon's identity.
>gold standardLets be honest, pokemon doesnt have the best graphics, the best story, has a gallery of hit or miss designs and while a fun battle system, its a pretty simplistic one, but the ONE THING pokemon had over all games of its kind (moster collecting) was that it had all of them, almost always more than the others, and all of them were unique. Its the main selling point, collecting, and pokemon had them beat.
The rest was shit actual fans were tired of their shit, but expected of them, this was just a new kind of bad, unthinkable, like we thought we were in the bottom of the hole but somehow we fell even further.
