Does anyone here actually think the latest gimmick of Gigamax is a good idea? Mega Evolutions look like a genius idea compared to this.

I like it, Mega's were cool sure, but the way they tied this gimmick to kaiju's(what people call giant godzilla/mothra/kingkong monsters) gets me excited to see what they do with it, especially with the spin offs.

Megas couldve been better in concept, but if they were gonna change types and fuck up designs then i'd much rather have cross gen evolutions as well as a once a battle gimmick that can be used by every pokemon.
Combining cross gen evolutions into a once-per-battle gimmick and making them all ugly and giving them to pokemon that do not need to be stronger was a mistake.
That being said I really hope we don't get too many broken and/or ugly gigantimax forms or whatever.

Alcremie would have made for a fantastic Mega Evolution with the whole 'turning into a huge, frosting-missile launching cake' gimmick to set it apart as a Mega. I just can't bring myself to like it as a Gigantamaxed Pokemon though.

Not really. I mean it's ok to make a mechanic which connects z-moves and mega-evolutions so you don't need to have 2038289 items, but from a design prespective is pretty wasted, because ok giants are cool but that red aura ruins everything and sometimes doesn't make you appreciate the design itself, like the corviknight one.

It's basically the same, but for 3 turns
Keep in mind that _max only boosts hp by 50% with a dynamax level bar value of zero, but higher levels' effects aren't known as of today

This, Megas were amazing we just needed more on Pokémon that were not getting an evolution but could use a boost.

Megas are the perfect compromise of not ruining the old design but letting it do new stuff, if anything they could have did a mix of let's go and make Megas use the keystone and a multipurpose item instead of specific ones. In that way you need to hold an item but you don't clog the inventory.

It’s a clever scheme in the sense that every Pokémon can get big so it’s not like Megas where only a tiny % can play with the new system. But on the other hand the entire thing is just silly. So good for gameplay potentially but I can’t help but roll my eyes every time I see it.

about that, when a pokemon dynamaxes, all their damaging moves turn into a max move of their specific type
when a pokemon can gigantamax (let's take drednaw for example), all damaging moves of the same type as their G-max move will turn into a G-max move
which means gygantamax drednaw will always set up rocks and never set up rain

And only lasts three turns, can be completely nullified by Max Guard, and goes away as soon you switch the Pokemon out.

At worst it's just going to be the weather wars meta from gen 5 again.

Please don't stab people at tournaments over Megas.

It's always autists that hate Megas, and let's be honest weather wars was not fun at all, it was the most oppressive metagame I experienced.

If anything this Dynamax shit is twice as cancerous as it not only restricts what's played but forces reactionary play with max guard just to attempt to stop a sweep.

Megas have never been this oppressive outside of Fug , Salamence and potentially Mega Gengar.

Kanga, Lucario, Gengar, mence, and Metagross bent OU the fuck over. And VGC was ran by megamom, mega mence, and mega Mawile before legendaries were allowed.

I'd rather just go back to regular battles. I didn't mind the idea of Megas, but the execution wasn't good in a decent amount of cases. I find Z-moves to be kind of obnoxious because of the absurd breaking power they have, although I didn't mind the status ones. This new gimmick seems even worse than both though, especially since you can still use a held item with it. Battles are going to turn into a clusterfuck.
