Emoting, yes. Catches the viewer's attention? Not particularly.
A little extra fun goes a long way, pic related. They convey the exact same emotion but the bottom one does a better job at conveying the mood of the scene. Is it goofier? Yeah, but that's not a bad thing considering it's proof they're putting more effort into the visual comedy, which was for the most part always lacking.
