You know what, you're right.
If gen1 weren't such a buggy mess, all the "mysteries" and "pokegods" that were created during the pokemon craze probably wouldn't exist. And Pokemon owes a lot of its early success to that.
I mean, if missing.no and mew really exist, who knows what else!

Bugs that don't affect online play and aren't usually triggered by normal playing are the best desu, they work as postgame for me. Look at Gen4 dark void, it's like you are exploring a distorted world and you gotta keep track of your own footsteps

"as intended" is kinda subjective, because they do work as intended, and they knew that the game has a lot of glitches,
You can walk, battle, and capture pokemon normally. There are only a couple of moves that don't work as intended, like focus energy.

It was the one which worked well on pokemon which evolved with a Moon Stone, but they apparently changed the pointer of Moon Stone to Burn Heal some day and didn't change the pointer in the ball.

That's a classic gamefreak move right there.

And don't forget the fastball, that was supposed to have a 4x multiplier on pokemon that can flee (many don't know that in Gen2 some non-legendary pokemon have a 10% chance to flee from battle) but it only works on magnemite, grimer and tangela for some reason.

you need to get access to battle dittos as fast as you can, then get pokemon with special stat needed to make the glitch pokemon appear, some of them may also require you have the dex entry for a normal pokemon before catching them or else your game will softlock

If the player has enough money to buy a Fresh Water (at least 200) but not enough to afford a Soda Pop or Lemonade, the vending machines atop Celadon Department Store still allow these more expensive drinks to be purchased. Theres a glitch involving reseting during the save/load up for the game that messes with PC pokemon and player data. It's the same glitch that can be used to beat the RGB games in under a minute. A part of this glitch is messing with the Pokedex/pokemon the player currently has, and a side effect is that if you were to heal when this glitch was active at the pokemon center, you will be treated as if you had an ungodly amount of pokemon, so the pokecenter screen animation that loads your pokemon into the healing thing will just keep looping and adding more and more pokeballs past 6. This is effectively a softlock unless you wait forever for all of the pokeballs to be loaded in which is like a minute.

What you say is correct, but properly functioning gameboy hardware =/= properly functioning gen1 software.
