I thought it was an interesting choice that in B/W you had 2 rivals who were actually your childhood friends and you are still best buddies, and you aren't in "smell ya later" relationship, you genuinely just grow stronger together as Pokemon trainers, it's a good "real friends" simulator. The plot also asked good questions about Pokemons and how they are enslaved and forced to battle, but unfortunately doesn't do anything else good besides asking them. The gameplay is also decent, I think it was last time when little changes in Pokemon didn't piss me off. The Gen V designs are a hit or miss, for me they are honestly mostly hits, but I do understand what people mean on some level when they say they shouldn't have made a Pokemon out of garbage. But that what it was, they made a garbage Pokemon because while researching New York they noticed a lot of garbage on the streets, so I get where Game Freak was going from.
The graphics are also hit or miss, they do squeeze every last possible bit Nintendo DS had in it and from technical stand point it's actually very decent, but the 2D sprites don't really mesh together with what they did with 3D. The Pokemon sprites are probably best in the series though.
And music is just gorgeous, very nice tracks overall.
B/W 2 in my opinion is better, but only because they simply ironed out most of shortcomings of B/W.
