Nobody does, but nobody plays competitive Pokemon for fun either. They do it to establish dominance against other players online. To show people they're the best, and that everyone else who competes isn't on their level. It's about proving your use of skill and strategy, proving your intelligence and mental fortitude to the world. Fun isn't even in the equation.

Competitive Pokemon is a bigger waste of time than hunting for shinies. At least with shiny hunting you get the satisfaction of gaining something you didn't have before. Everyone is a loser in competitive.

Why are pokefags so disjointed from the rest of the industries they're discussing? Top tier characters are a thing in every fucking game. If you play casually, you don't worry about it, but if you wanna bother playing competitively you need to use the best tools given to you to ensure the victory. Nobody's forcing anyone to get into comp. And why Smogon in particular? Every single format has a few mons that are very clearly performing better thus worth using more

In Gen 7 OU, only 10% of the total Pokemon are viable, meaning a pool of roughly 90 Pokemon can be used to some degree of effectiveness.

In Gen 8 OU, only 10% of the total Pokemon will be viable, meaning a pool of roughly 50 Pokemon can be used to some degree of effectiveness.
People will celebrate this as a victory for game balance.

This is the stupidest argument you could've possibly made
1)ORAS has 100 pokemon on the OU viability ranking, implying the amount of viable mons decreased when more of them were added in gen 7
2)Not like your argument makes any sense in the first place since it's not a guaranteed constant 10% and just because it was 10% in one gen doesn't mean that will be the case in others
3)Smogon balances shit themselves. They don't need GF to do it for them
4)GF doesn't do it for Smogon, they do it for console play. That's the only thing they care about

I don't get why people talk about "competitive pokemon" and not about "strategic pokemon"
Competitive implies that all players are tryhards who want to get to the top at all costs, get involved in official smogon/vgc tournaments, et caetera
Most people just want to do their best against their current opponent by using a better strategy than them even if they end up losing, or to have fun with a gimmick/meme/theme team
But they DON'T give a shit about being za best of za warudo

No one is forcing you to play, you can play with “Anything Goes” with no rules, even though the list of “viable pokemon” gets even smaller when allowing ubers, so the pokemon others use will get even more repetitive. Without rules, most of the criticism you guy give to OU get even worse. And even if you like it better, smogon rules are not obligatory in battling. Just, don’t, play, their, tiers. Ignore them. They’re not even meant for people who battle online just for fun.

After the clusterfuck meta become at gen 6+, with the smogon shit philosophy and stuffs, I'm not interested anymore in competitive else for experiment some things. You can just fuck your opponent with 2 Regenerators combo anyway.
VGC is just funny in consoles, unfortunately.

what is the alternative? people who go around earnestly trying to use Hitmonchan, Leafeon, Stingulor and Skuntank in the same metas where pokemon like Mega Blaziken and Aegislash (e.g. BSS) or Primal Groudon and Xerneas (e.g. VGC) aren't fun to fight against, and those metas have even less diversity.

If you don't want to play OU there are like 6 other tiers and fifty OMs to play. The last time /vp/ tried to make a ladder it died in like a week. None of the threads here are even about battling. You have like six people on this board in Wifi Gen for multis. That's it

My best ranking in OU was in gen 6 with ~1430 elo
I managed to get into the top 500 with a hastily built team in Anything Goes at the end of gen 6, as even high 1500s numbers were enough back then (I was 423rd or 433rd overall)
In gen 7 I'm just as high as the cliche [1100, 1300] /vp/ ubershitter as I only come on showdown like once every 6 months and only to play theme teams that almost no opponent recognizes ever
Also I liked UU when Clefable and Gliscor were in, made a strong team by pure luck and was around the high 1300s
