Holy FUCK are these bad. Every ten steps there is more dialogue and cutscenes. I am two hours in and feel like the tutorial is still going.

I thought you guys were just being jaded contrarians about the new games but holy shit this is terrible.

The only gen that had some meaningful dialogues was Gen V (especially BW1) because of philosophy and shit. The rest of the gens are childish shit.

There's a difference between talking to people to figure out what to do and being forcibly stopped every time you try to do anything. Pokemon nowadays has a problem where you want to do something, and someone stops you for some inconsequential bullshit.

I am TIRED of Game Freak bootlickers!! You like Sun and Moon? Fine. But they have flaws, and the excessive amount of cutscenes/scripted dialogue are one of them. I don't want to to babysit Lillie and Nebby Webby, I wanna play the fucking game! Let me explore and think about what path to take next.
If I wanted to read I'd play a VN or watch the anime.
You might not mind the dialogue on first playthrough, but it absolutely kills repeatability and USUM were a slog for it. Let's put things into perceptive: it takes roughly 45 minutes for you to receive your starter and learn how to battle in SM. If this were a gen 1-4 game you would be close to the first gym leader by then. I'm not bullshitting, look up anyway playthrough.
Basically just.. stop acting like Game Freak are the perfect developer. You would be bashing other series if they did things like this and were not previously known for doing it.

Just finish SM or don't and never touch anything gen 7 related ever again. Also, expect sword shield to be the exact same shit

God damn Masuda. He wants to punish me for starting new games just to get more legendaries for poke bank hoarding. They made all those damn tedious unskippable dialogue cutscenes to lag up the game and try and discourage people from getting spare legendaries without cheats and glitches. This will sure as hell be a flaw on sword and shield as well. I skipped LGPE. All the pokemon I want from that game I can just get from virtual console red. I started 5 new games on moon and I am burned out but I have 5 Lunalas, 5 Necrozmas, and 5 of each of the tapus.

I feel like it gets a lot better after the second (!) island but holy fuck, the introduction to the second island itself is an absolute nightmare.

It's been obvious for a while that no one actually cares about these games as an RPG you can play, but rather something to quickly burn through so they focus on their specific avenue of autism. Anyone who says Gen 7 is good means that in a way very specific to what they enjoy about Pokemon rather than what a person would traditionally play a game for.

I had won against Olivia but then I just fell out of playing. I thought about motivating myself to pick it back up in time for Sword/Shield, but I don't think that game is going to fix anything I didn't like about this one-- and with no national dex, what's the point of me going for these one-offs and legendaries and stuff if they're just going to rot in Sun's PC.

With the first island the walls of text are at least a bit understandable because whatever, they have to establish everyone. Here, it's past the early game so it tricks you into thinking shit will change.

It's funny, because if they added a cutscene/dialogue skip then you'd see how fucking shallow the Gen 7 games were. Story is literally all Alola has going for it, the region can't stand on its own two feet because everything is so lazily designed and devoid of any exploration whatsoever. They made the game putting story and characters first and foremost and it's painfully obvious.
I'd have been more forgiving towards SM if the story amounted to dealing with the UBs yourself. Would seem fitting for a monster catching/battling JRPG, but GF thought it would be more entertaining to babysit a useless girl to help with her family issues.
Masuda was mediocre as a director but I'll gladly take him over Ohmori anyday.
