>>40282458Alright. I throw Crabominable around on threads like these and I guess I’ll finally explain myself. There’s a lot of things that align here. I wasn’t crazy about crabrawler so I had nothing to be disappointed in its evolution, in fact I think its cool how it “got lost” and mutates into some big monster unrelated to its prevo. Though for crabrawler fans, I think its fair to say it would have been better as a split line.
Next is the concept of a literal yeti crab. It’s simple but it’s definitely a unique type of creature. Apes and crabs are so very distant and unrelated, so something that combines arthropod anatomy with mammalian features in a way that makes sense is interesting, to me anyways. The “fist” claws and the ape-like chest on a crab are just very original. I also like invertebrates a lot in real life anyways.
As for its goofiness, well, if I like Crabominable then clearly I wasn’t looking for something “cool.” It has a jolly christmasy atmosphere to me being a snowy yeti ice type and all. Like Bumble. That being said I do think it can look fairly imposing at times in the right context and angle.
Finally, I like how it goes beyond just LOOKING like an abominable snowman. They actually are almost like cryptids, being super hard to find/evolve, only on snowy mountains. And in their concept art it shows how its claws can also double as making giant bigfoot-like footprints in the snow, which is neat.
I don’t think it’s design is perfect though, it definitely could have been improved upon in some ways like its shapes and what-not, but I still love it. i have like a set of 4-5 top favorites that switch positions so I wouldn’t always say it’s “my favorite pokemon” but its up there with them. Also helps that I used it in my Moon playthrough and it wrecked house.
