If you were a fan of the long running Aliens comic series this alone had you foaming at the mouth. The fact it happens in the opening makes the movie objectively shit as it hits the reset button so hard it reset the Terminator franchise too.

Not in the comic series. She became the penultimate alien hunter after Ripley died. In the movie though Newt was critical to Ripleys character growth. Newt was Ripleys surrogate daughter to the one shes still reeling over losing, vice versa Ripley is Newts surrogate mother and family to the one she lost. The compliment each other and push eachother outside their comfort zones to do shit they wouldn’t dream of doing... til Alien 3

Then you didn’t understand Ripley’s character growth. Newt was integral to it, remove her and the plot doesn’t work. Characters like Rey or Carol Danvers must be more your speed. No pesky character growth, all characters are expendable in their ‘greatness’. No complexity to worry about.
