Do there exist any actual quality alternatives to Pokemon? In the past few years I've played the following to completion:
>Persona 5
>Xenoblade Chronicles 2
>Dragon Quest XI
>Ni No Kuni 2
>Kingdom Hearts 3
>Final Fantasy 15 Royal Ed.
>Fire Emblem Echoes SoV
>Fire Emblem Three Houses
^All of which disappointed greatly, but I stuck with them to see 'em through to the end, hoping things would start to improve as more hours accumulated. Over 1000 hours wasted in total.
It seems to me like JRPGs are a dried up corpse of what they use to be. The only """modern""" JRPGs I have truly enjoyed over the past 10 or so years have been Xenoblade Chronicles X, Dragon' s Dogma: Dark Arisen, The Dark Spire, Fire Emblem Awakening/Conquest, and NieR:Automata. Every other fucking JRPG I've played in the past decade has just felt like going through the motions; boring as shit.... with the EXCEPTION of the Pokemon mainline RPGs. Idk what it is about Pokemon, but even when it's shit like with D/P/Pt, ORAS, and SM/USUM somehow it still manages to keep me entertained throughout. I think it may have something to do with the level of party customization it provides. I have always hated games where your party options are overly restrictive. Pokemon blows pretty much every other game in existence out of the water in this regard. However, with the whole Dexit controversy, it does seem like this appeal will be diminished at least somewhat.
