No Pokemon game will lose money, but it CAN make less money than the people owning it want (I.E. Nintendo)

Outside of the small dex (Which appeals directly to the genwunners at least) most of the game was made with the idea of being compatible with GO, it was meant to prepare GO fans for the mainline, it not having items or abilities or wild battles is perfect in this context, and even then, it brought back things people really did like: Following Pokemon and Gym Leader rematches
It also introduced the option to directly customize your Pokemon, even if it was limited to the partner and it actually took the story in anew direction (A strange mix of sequel and retelling) that was good for old timers coming back for the 1st time in years and complete newbs that never played Kanto games
I'm not criticizing Go, I fucking think it's, no joke, better than gen 8, but it's obvious that SOMETHING in its numbers didn't go according to plan
