I know it's easy to slip into thinking X and Y weren't bad because of how much worse the franchise has gotten, but X and Y are in fact still bad. They're just better than everything else that got released after it.

This is what happens when you choose to live in a bubble. 99% of people do not give a shit about the national dex or texture quality on random trees. The new game adds a lot for the casual Pokemon fans. A lot of customization, galas forms, giganatamax forms, the return of Pokemon camping, good graphics in the town's and of course as usual 80 new monsters.

It was a leap forward in the graphical department, but lacked in content and was a blatantly casualized version of what was already babby's first JRPG. It was the beginning of the downwards spiral and while I personally have a huge softspot for it, it gets shit for a reason.

Even normalfags hate XY after the dust settled. It's the same song and dance for every pokemon game. The public opinion shift of Sun/Moon despite the dick-sucking it got when it first released was incredible to behold so I'm very interested to see how Sword/Shield is received years from now

I would argue it was Diamond and Pearl that started the decline

People defend gen 4 because of the great Platinum and HG/SS but they forget Diamond and Pearl being the first really mediocre mainline games.
