Unskippable cutscenes

For the first time the 3D world felt alive. Time didn’t stop when you finished the game, there were some side stories you could complete. Alola in the afternoon is a sigh I’ll never forget. New gen looks like a dead world at first glance.

Cutscenes suck

Otherwise...I enjoyed gen 7, but the cutscenes make it a chore.

It’s not a perfect but it was a fun gen with lots of personality and memorable characters.

The new Pokémon are mostly fine.

It's been a while but off the top of my head (obviously this is just my opinion). I have been around since RBY.

Wrong:

>Takes ~30 fucking minutes to get your starter (thankfully was fixed in US/UM)
>Handholding was infuriating, especially on the first island (though after that it got better imo)
>When you think about it the story is more about Lillie than you (thankfully there are two flutes at least)
>No dex entries for everyone (nitpick but still)
>Po Town isn't restored after you defeat Team Skull, which is just depressing
>red/orange hair colour removed
>Nearly all of the Alola forms
>Extremely obvious "twists" (giving all of Lillie's family the exact same hair and eye colour/shape, as if they're clones)
>Lillie is obnoxious in the beginning
>Player character only emotes once and this isn't even fixed
>Victory Road and E4 are very lackluster
>Lots of awkward fades to black instead of actual animation (US/UM fixes things here and there like actually showing your drink order, but that's about it)
>Loading times are atrocious (having a New 3DS fixes this a great deal)
>Some things are cool in concept but disappointing in execution (the volcano that you don't even get to see the inside of)
>Designated fishing spots
>Lots of un-enterable buildings (and still in US/UM)
>Character/pokemon animations (but especially the former) get EXTREMELY repetitive
>In US/UM having the Ultra Recon Squad butt in on top of the plot feels like a fanfic
>Rental pokemon are set so you feel disconnected from them (I know that's probably the point but I am so fucking sick of Charizard jesus christ)

>Champion/finale gave me the biggest smile (US/UM ruins this), was incredibly satisfying
>Poke Pelago is very cute
>Z moves, unlike megas, aren't all species-exclusive, which feels like they finally threw a bit of a bone to the unloved 'mons
>in US/UM Necrozma finally getting that extra depth is good (as well as getting to see another dimensions' inhabitants/town - this on top of the negative things about US/UM make me wonder if it was worth it)
>Rental Pokemon instead of HMs
