https://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2017/12/31/the-history-of-pokemon.aspxI'm kind of an Ohmori defender because up until this point I'm still not sure how good of a director he is, but I have a feeling he didn't necessarily want to be the lead developer of Pokemon. He's put in a bad situation, and while sometimes pressure makes diamonds, at a certain point things just implode. The thing is I don't think anybody is a good replacement. Masuda is clearly out of touch at this point, the game might get made and might be stable but it will be about as mediocre. Morimoto would seem like a good choice but from what I've seen (or at least his ingame appearence in Gen 7) he is only really enthusiastic about ideas he comes up with, even if retroactively he thinks other's ideas were good ideas in the long term. Every third version developer has had an engine to work off of, so only Unno seems like a decent choice because if B2W2 is any indication he's an overachiever. Interestingly, Iwao could theoretically be a good choice, he's a battle guy like Morimoto and he seems to be doing his fucking job in that the actual battle mechanics aren't a complete fucking mess, and USUM is almost as good of a salvage job as Platinum, give or take 3/5th of a Battle Frontier and a Sonic 2 special stage. But in the end I think the best thing for Game Freak is to re-instate whatever lead to the Game Cube titles by Genius Sonority. It would give GF some more time, let another studio put their own spin on the mechanics, let TPC have a special line to market, and give Game Freak some future staff possibly.
