The biggest audience for the game are gen y and teen millenials, people who have been following pokemon for years (even decades and since the beginning with gen y) because they're the ones with the fucking disposable income
Children that actually like Pokemon is an incredibly small demographic that nintendo doesn't seem to understand at all. They still think they have to maintain their disney-esque squeaky clean family friendly image despite their biggest fan base being in their fucking 20s
