>>41693160>screensThe one thing Meganium does have going for it.
>bulkFeraligatr has bulk and hitting power.
>poisonIs borderline useless and in almost all in-game scenarios, an extra hit is better.
>Meanwhile Feraligatr does absolutely nothing that the many other water types of Johto can't do. Lets go through your list of water-types:
>PoliwrathOnly a contender in Crystal, GS has no Water Stone until Kanto. Even then, it is a worse Feraligatr in almost every way. Politoed is the actual competitor, and is pretty much also a worse Feraligatr, but with Perish Song shenanigans.
>Lanturn-Slowest exp group
-Worse Stats
-No Ice Punch
-Need a 5500 coin TM for it to do anything worthwhile with its electric typing. Spark is alright but not much more.
>GyaradosMore or less a second Feraligatr, but with drawbacks:
-Slower leveling(Gatr is in the fastest group for a good long while, Gyara in the slowest).
-Lower special(Meaning Gatr has better water moves)
-No Ice Punch
-No Earthquake
-Feraligatr has a headstart on friendship, so Return is better on Feral for a good long while.
-No Stat Exp. means it will be weaker than Feraligatr when it joins in almost any regard.
>Slowbro(and Slowking, just for the sake of it)One of the better mons to use in place of Feraligatr, but is worse in most scenario where anything resists water for a long time, as it can't really impress with its second STAB(Psychic isn't until level 48). Meanwhile, Feraligatr uses Water+Normal to fantastic effect(nothing resists the combo) and in Victory Road, it picks up Earthquake.
>QuagsireWorse than Feraligatr in most ways. Still good though, since Water is an excellent typing in this game, and it joins early and evolves early.
>StarmieOnly a contender in Crystal, due to no Water Stone before Kanto in GS.
Even then:
-No Psychic till Kanto
-Needs 5500 coins for Thunder or Blizzard
-Icy Wind is the only Ice Move available otherwise
-Slowest Exp Group
Feraligatr has no equal among the Water-types.
