Should Grimmsnarl go Atk + Spe, HP + Atk, or HP + SpD?
I'm torn between them because they all have their merits. By the same token I'm also torn between Bulk Up and a Fighting attack, since Max Knuckle pumps Atk too.

Shadow Tag is banned so unless you're playing on cart you're not gonna be able to use that. The simplest recommendation I can give you is Ditto, anything else is too passive for how your team is built.

Dynamax moves give all different buffs, flying for a speed boost and fighting for an attack buff, weather setters like water ones ect. A lot of pokemon are abusing these to sweep after dynamax ends, primarily using the flying for speed. So ditto has become popular because it steals all those boosts which also having a choice scarf, so they just set up to let ditto reverse sweep them. Even if the pokemon dynamaxing has a choice scarf themselves it's inactive while dynamax is active so ditto is faster still.

Second is ditto is capable of dynamaxing using the copied pokemon, so on top of the stat buffs already copied you can gain more without being locked to a choice scarf. By far the best counter to dynamax that isn't uber legendary we have.

For those who havent seen it before, I highly reccomend the mobile app Poketype. Its just updated most of its database to be on-par with Serebii and comes with a great teambuilding tool that rivals Meriland's, all offline too. You can pay to remove ads but otherwise it's free.

As long as you could switch on the fly when needed. Torkoal/Pelipper/etc will be pretty much required since it's quite risky to have a disadvantageous weather out.

That all depends on who your main room setter is right now.

I've heard that packing 1 fast mon on trick room teams as a "just in case" option is pretty deece. If you want to go that route, Balanced Mole of a Healthy Meta is a pretty good option to have in the pocket.

My current Grimmsnarl setup utilizes Bulk Up with Drain Punch and it's fantastic for coverage, recovery and Dmax boost. To give it the best effect I max out HP and Atk. Since Grimmsnarl only has two weaknesses, he can tank most moves well, even special moves, and the HP keeps him alive. With Drain Punch and Leftovers together I can regain more HP than I lose from Steel types after one Bulk Up. His Speed is pretty bad, so that would be the only acceptable alternative, but taking away from Atk lessens his sweep potential and taking away from HP lessens his survivability and he'll still be outsped by most other sweepers anyway.

I'm pretty new to the competitive scene though so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Help me out /vp/, I'm using Ferrothorn as my hazard setter and I'm wondering what the best movesets for him would be. I'm torn between:
-Stealth Rock
-Thunder Wave
-Curse
-Gyro Ball

OR

-Stealth Rock
-Leech Seed
-Curse
-Gyro Ball

The top set is better for crippling sweepers with paralysis or just generally annoying threats, but without leftovers (which I'm already using on something else), he can go down pretty quickly after traps have been set and doesn't really get to stick around for the gyro ball and curse combo. Leech Seed would fix that, but then allows Mons to set up on him. Also, if I were to go LS, who do you breed him with in this game to get it?

Run special dragapult. You can hide you are special by dynamaxing. It is not effected by wisp and there are way more physical attackers this gen so people who are only doing calcs for physical mons like drill will be killed. There is literally no reason to run physical dragapult ever. It gets no good ghost attacks. It just sucks dont use it

Z moves were at least good for coverage on weaker moves but that was a general use thing. When you have to run specific shitmons to use the moves then it's bad, look at lycanroc and the starter z moves those were bad. i just ran a few calcs assuming the mons are at level 50, i'm by no way an expert and haven't really done any comp this gen yet but if your main goal is to survive excadrill's iron head unboosted it might help a little
if excadrill has life orb the only way you're surviving an iron head is to run bold with 252 def and 156 hp if it's adamant, bold with 252 def 36hp if the excadrill is jolly
if it doesn't have a life orb you can have any nature on togekiss but if it's not +def you'll need 200 def to survive if excadrill is adamant and 92 defense if it's jolly, the rest can go into whatever

Again, somewhat talking out of my ass, but I believe Espeon, Sylveon, and Umbreon are the most viable, though Umbreon is probably a bit worse without access to toxic.

Vaporeon and Jolteon have been somewhat viable in the past but I think they'll be hurting a bit due to reduced options (especially jolteon) with all the removed moves.

Still I think they all learn baton pass, so some kind of baton pass gimmick team is probably your best bet.

I'm going to play the VGC format.
I'm attracted to Rain, but I feel like it will be so standard, and have little room for variation or surprises. Everyone will run it, expect it, or counter it.

Then again it might not matter because STAB 175 base power water move boosted by rain is so strong that even if you see it coming it might not matter

If you played gen 7 OU you might remember a similar strategy involving Tapu Koko and Hawlucha. Basically it all revolves on Hawlucha holding a terrain seed which is consumed instantly if terrain is up, activating its Unburden ability and also boosting its mediocre bulk, which allows it to setup Swords Dance more easily. Rillaboom is on paper the best partner available because it can wallbreak and most importantly has U-turn in order to bring Hawlucha in safely. However, since it is unreleased right now, people either Dynamax Hawlucha in order to make it set terrain by itself or use Pincurchin to set Spikes and then bring Hawlucha in safely via Memento.

When are we going to do something actually fucking fun? The games been out for like 2 weeks now, it's been long enough that most people are in the breeding stage of Pokemon right now, why don't we set up a Draft League tournament like the youtubers run? Eh, maybe a little just because there's less to go around but it'll still be more than servicable IMO. Hardest part will be getting a decent amount of people here actually interested in joining. An ideal number would be like 12-16 people or something

This is why people ran Double Duck back when SM first released. I honestly think you could recreate this somewhat with Ludicolo replacing Golduck, Indeedee replacing Lele, and Bronzong replacing Metagross.

Water Bubble is a better boost than Strong Jaw. Plus, Burn immunity is neat.

Neither of those get Dracovish's speed which is the biggest hinderance. Vish can outspeed some things with Jolly and a proper EV spread. Doesn't require a ridiculous amount of set-up and can be scarfed. Araquanid and Crawdaunt aren't beating shit.

Look at my picture, Anon.
I'm thinking of setting up vish with Water Bubble using Entrainment. Burn immunity and Fishous Rend deals double damage. Also becomes a viable Dynamax option since you don't care about losing strong jaw boost.

Dracovish doesn't need D-Max though. He's overkilling without it which leaves the D-Max spot open for something else. For Crawdaunt and Araquanid to get to his sweeping potential we're talking about speed set-ups and D-Max. They're good builds but they're no Dracovish.

It's not a Trick Room exclusive optimization, it's something you run on mons with no physical moves (or weak, utility oriented physical moves) in order to mitigate three things
>confusion self hit damage
>Foul Play damage
>damage recovered via Strength Sap by the opponent
There is no reason not to do it.

Depends what you're going for. Hawlucha is strictly better but you generally need to set up terrain for him first. Toxicroak does better with a rain team and has better coverage.
