>>41753612I haven't had many issues with scale, given that the point system is more loose. A route has to be very large before it gets 2 points, and there tend to only be one or two cities in any given region that warrant 2 points by my metrics.
I don't count used vs non-used space in my totals. I'm going strictly off in-game areas. Things like Poni Island get counted as routes for the wilds and path, a town for the village, and a cave for the canyon. Similarly, the National Park counts as a Route while the Ruins of Alph count as a Route for the upper portion and a cave for the lower, with the individual puzzle chambers not being considered large enough to count separately.
To put some numbers into perspective, a lot of Kanto's bulk comes from the multi-story dungeons including Silph Co, the Seafoam Islands, Pokemon Tower, the Rocket Hideout, etc, along with the Safari zone. This is again due to me perhaps weighting caves too heavily for my scores, but Alola for comparison only has Aether Paradise, Mt. Lanakila, Poni Canyon, and the Guardian ruins as large dungeons.
Sinnoh, for comparison, has quite a lot of large routes and dungeons, with Mt. Coronet getting 9 points by itself, but a lot of the other dungeons are on the smaller side. Hoenn simply has a stupid number of caves with a lot of floors.
As for Unova, I am the least confident in the score, simply due to how less familiar I am with the games, but again the game mostly suffers in terms of size of the caves here. Victory Road is almost as large as Mt. Coronet, but there aren't as many dungeons overall. I suppose the other area where Unova loses out in my total is that I didn't count any of its massive bridges, given they are long empty hallways with nothing in them. I accounted for that similarly with things like the Underground Paths in Kanto or other places that are ultimately empty of any real features
My goal was to try and measure size more objectively instead of going based off what it felt like
