Have a party mechanic where you can recruit up to two other trainers and when they're active all wild and NPC encounters turn into either double or triple battles
Once you defeat a NPC class, a certain character or a gym leader you unlock them as party members

More gyms based on gimmicks.
Not randomic elements like in some Battle Facilities, simply additional rules. Like a Rotation Battle-based Gym, or an Inverse Battle-based one for example.

random chances to run into pokemon way higher lvl than you can ever get yourself or would be during the part of the game youre in that force you to use strategy to beat them
ex: a lvl 20 dungeon has a random lvl 40 mon that might pop up and kick your ass but is beatable or an end game dungeon has a mons that scale higher than 100 by a certain amount depending on your avg group lvl
