No. Additionally, the same game with minor tweaks meme began in Gen 5, which was the only gen that didn't add any major improvements like the previous gens. I get they're fundamentally the same, but comparing RBY to GSC is just as dumb as comparing RSE to DPP. I don't see why SWSH awakening to the fans having standards is a bad thing anyway. Better late than never.

Also, Everything else you mentioned was just as bad, especially Zeraora. The reason people criticize Obstagoon in particular is because it bastardized a perfectly fine mon into a fursuit OC, and people were quick to notice.
