>>42380116I think they're pretty obviously regional variants rather than new species. I also love them, I think all 3 look fucking fantastic and Zapdos especially I like the direction they've taken to do something different with the design but keep the fierce demeanour. The 3 original birds are some of my favourite legendaries and I think these new designs do them justice.
Reminds me a lot of how Monster Hunter typically handles its subspecies - same basic design with a new spin for something different. Generally if I like a monster in MonHun I love its subspecies as well because of this and it's the same here.
