I love Rillaboom. Best starter in years. It's the only one I've ever used in competative to great success and it doesn't need to rely on bullshit crutches like DURR INVERT ALL STAT CHANGES or I'M EVERY TYPE. It's just a fucking good grass type. Also Serps is dogshit without it's HA, in it's home game it's almost as bad, and it's one of the lamest and most uninspired designs for a snake I've ever seen. I'm aware it's inspired by french royalty and I know it has it's hands behind it's back. It's still shit.

It's the worst starter full stop. The base design is boring and uninteresting, especially for its role as a starter, while the addition of the drum and hair to force a horrible theme onto it makes it one of the most clunky and unnatural designs in the series. Rillaboom manages to sit in the worst of both worlds, being a completely lame and forgettable design that also manages to be as offensive as the worst Pokemon has to offer.

I'm honestly inclined to agree with you, OP. Rillaboom really does strike me as the best designed starter in years, probably since 4th gen.

If only they'd get a fucking grip and learn how to make the models look passable. Delphox wasn't TERRIBLE, Greninja was OKAY, but the horrible plasticy soul-sucked-out sprites that you have to look at the whole time you're playing the game just ruin them. Rillaboom was *******this******** close to being perfect but they just had to add the big retarded drum. Without the drum and the sticks he looks like an absolutely classic Pokémon, unlike the rabbit and the sexy lizard who were irreversibly ruined by GameFreaks boner for "personality".

This thing has less than 180 entries on Pixiv while both Cinderace and Inteleon have almost 800 each with Inteleon taking the lead by a dozen of pictures. Meanwhile Cinderace has twice the results Inteleon has on DA which itself has twice the amount of results Rillaboom has. This thing pretty much pleases nobody outside of some spergs on /vp/ that think that a design can't be controversial in any way to be good, and that the inoffensive "it's the least bad of the three" deisgn is objectively better than a design that gets both love and hate, when in reality these kind of designs just leave you with a feeling of emptiness and don't really have an impact on much of anything for anyone. Bland and uninspired designs like Rillaboom are the worst, I'd even take a poorly realized but imaginative concept like Samurott over it.

It doesn't have a "set" personality like Incineroar or Inteleon, and I can actually see an entire species of him living in a jungle, whereas the other starters, they feel more like single entities. They are cords but they are referred to as tails too. If we are being more specific it has tiger tails and is an oni. Slaking isn't ment to be pretty, it's ment to be lazy but very strong. Oh and if you remember yokai Lombre is somewhat ape esque because it's based on the more man-like kappa. The elemental monkeys are also a thing even if they aren't liked.

I'm aware Lombre is a Kappa. It's pretty fucking based, Kappas are one of my favorite yokai from japanese myth.
We honestly do have a shitload of monkeys and apes. We've got enough to the point where we could reasonably make and entire team themed around simian pokemon and have plenty of choices to choose from! Which personally, I like. Because Apes and Monkeys are both awesome and FUCKING HORRIFYING. Those things are scary when they get mad man.
Fuck, how could you even forget Darmanitan (both flavors), or Mankey and Primeape? You also forgot Oranguru and Passimian. Hell, you could make an entire team out of monkeys where none of them even share the same type!

My favorite is still Rillaboom though. We all can have a favorite monkey/gorilla/ape/similar simian, and he's mine. I fucking love this guy. He's probably my favorite starter at this point, he's just so damn awesome! Venusaur will still always have a special place in my heart though. I love that lil' toad like you wouldn't believe.

Primape is sort of a gray area between a chimp and a monkey. Darmanitan (Unovan variant) is based on an orangutan last I checked with gorilla arms.
The other 2 are again, orangutan and a lemur.

Plus, then Rillaboom gets his G-Max form, which is honestly the only one I like out of the three galar starters since it takes the concept and really runs with it since Rillaboom merges with his drum and turns into an entire fucking forest. That's just fucking rad.

Whereas Abomasnow's take on the Yeti of the Mountains is a Living, Shambling, Perpetually-Frozen Tree that controls blizzards and is so fucking cold that the area around it starts raining chunks of ice any time it comes near. Abomasnow could very easily be made into a top tier movie monster with very little changes, the idea is that fucking solid.

I do want a proper sasquach though. But I feel like the yeti we got is perfect.
