i started with G4 so my opinion might be a bit screwy but i saw G5 as a huge curveball to the existing series
having an entirely new pokedex as well as no returning pokemon (at least for BW) made the games feel like something completely unfamiliar and unsupported by the previous titles
i could say the same for B2W2 in relation to BW due to them also having entirely new plots to the previous ones

imo i like gen 4 and 6 more due to them being grander in scale and brighter in their environments, but i'm not gonna say they're better than 5
