The former basically reduces the titular creatures to props.

In previous series, the Pokemon caught by the main cast were characters too; they were given just as much characterization and character development as the humans.

Reducing the titular creatures to props who serve no purpose other than to be caught to shill a phone app is a bad move.

Ash caught a bunch of shit in Kanto/Johto and it worked fine, he just brought them in on occasion. It gave some variety, episodes felt special when he would pull out Muk or Tauros or something. It's not like they were totally forgotten about.

No it's not actualy. That is autistic. In all seasons we've had monsters that got less or more action than others. Nobody ever cried about "fuck1! Ash is dehumanizing Tauros!!" or whatever monster got less screentime than others. And even then Pinsir, Scyther and Metapod still ended up having neat lil scenes that show they're cared for.

Hard agree with you. I don't hate the character but I despise this new aspect of the series. The anime made the Pokémon feel like a close group of comrades that fought along Ash because he won them over with his kindness - Pikachu, Treecko, Chimchar, Froakie: they are all great examples of that. They accepted him, not the other way around.

Now, this motherfucker just throws some balls and that's it. I fucking hate it, and I hate even more the fact Ash is okay with it.

The new season is a mix of Pokemon Go and SwSh. So far it has been focussed on traveling and catching Pokemon while showing a couple of things from SwSh (like gigantamaxing), but in a couple of episodes it'll focus more on SwSh (there will be a battle between Leon and an unknown folk).
Also ignore the other poster. Go is a boy(male).

The new anime has nothing to do with SwSh. We already had two episodes in Galar. This upcoming Leon vs Lance battle is just another episode where they're in Galar for one episode, then go back to Kanto then go to another region again. Rinse and repeat.

I haven't seen any of the BW season desu and don't know anothing about the fan dicussion besides it being mostly negative.
But regardless, Pokemon used to be far more focused on battling in the early seasons, the power of friendship shit didn't start for a while after. For the most part, discounting rule breaking shenanigans, it felt like the stronger Pokemon was always the one winning - which incedentally is why Ash fucking lost everything important.

There are several differences with what Ash caught in Kanto than what Go is doing. For starters, Go has already caught more Pokémon than Ash ever did in Kanto with most of them being generic shitmons, and Ash got very lucky by having all of the Pokémon he caught being very strong without any training. Muk, Kingler, and Tauros were all able to go up against League trainers (or Drake) and be successful while Go's strongest Pokémon was oneshot by some no-name. Go will certainly catch stronger Pokémon in the future, but he doesn't seem to care much about training, and the vast majority of his Pokémon will never be used in any meaningful way.

He's not really up to anything right now. He hasn't done anything in the new series except win a no-name tournament. I get what they're doing with go, but it is very jarring going from a series where the characters rarely catch mons and interact closely with them to one where a main character catches everything in sight and rarely interacts with them. Plus, I'm pissed that the series uses Go's no-name mons in the way I've always dreamed Ash would use his Oakmons where they would appear in the background and get an occasional interaction with him

The OS was definitely not in any way as battle focused as he claims, but the battles that did happen were almost never decided by the power of friendship. Ash was mostly successful from sheer dumb luck that his Pokémon were inherently powerful and didn't need much training. It'd be normal for someone to not care about pokemon in the pokemon world, since it's...normal to have them around.

In the past 12 years. Ash obtained Buizel in 2007. That was his 31st. Ash got Melmetal in 2019. That was his 52nd. Go obtained that many Pokemon in just 5 episodes.

And with Go and Ash both catching something in the latest episode, it all evens out in the end. Go still caught more Pokemon than Ash did in more than 12 years.
