i always suspected that no one on this board plays other games but this thread confirms it
>durr so edgy
colosseum is saccharine as fuck. nothing remotely dark or unfortunate happens in the game. any other JRPG for elementary school kids, whether it be dragon quest or FFTA or kingdom hearts, skews much edgier than the lowest point in the orre games
>not a real game because there's no wild pokémon!
jesus what a dumb distinction. wild pokémon is more of a story conceit than anything else. the narrative here involves a lifeless desert considered inhospitable to wild animals. you still throw poké balls at pokémon to catch them for your party. for fuck's sake, you can have battles that are turn for turn identical to gen 3. same pokémon, same moves, same stats, same damage
i can't imagine what would happen if any of you played two final fantasy games. is FF8 a different series than FF7 because it doesn't have materia? 11 is a fucking mmo and 15 is a shitty action game, are they not final fantasy?
i think pokémon is the only video game series ever made with this much adherence to gameplay programmed 20+ years ago. it's not normal to still have the same party size, the same moves, the same fucking stats for this long
>generic
it's actually more unique than the typical pokémon game because it's all trainer battles. the endless caves and seas full of random encounters is pure generic 90s RPG. the orre games stand out by setting themselves almost entirely in and around manmade structures, and staging battles against other intelligent humans with the exact same abilities as the player with human intelligence. fuck, just simple shit like the AI having an earthquake user and a flying type/ levitate user/ protect user plays to the unique strengths of pokémon more than 99% of the game freak developed games
these are the few games in the series that attempt to carve out their own niche rather than being bad dragon quest clones.
no wonder /vp/ hates them
