I 100% think megas will be back in the DP remakes, because they've explicitly said multiple times that dynamax only happens in Galar, and they'll need new forms to sell the games.
I know they said mega evolution was exclusive to Kalos in XY, before retconning it in ORAS, but it was just a throwaway line, while the regional exclusivity of dynamax is an important plot point that's mentioned multiple times during the game.

Also, the previous two gimmicks followed a pattern of being introduced (XY for megas, SM for Z-moves) -> being expanded in the next entries (ORAS and USUM) -> and then dropped or ignored in the next ones (SM and LGPE)
SwSh introduced dynamax and the expansion is, well, expanding on the feature. It'd make sense for the DP remakes to focus on a different gimmick, and instead of creating an entirely new gimmick just for the remakes, they could just bring back and expand a popular abandoned mechanic like mega evolution.

Most megas aren't really necessary. One/two stage evolutions with megas should just get a watered down version of their mega as a regular evolution.

The mega stones being in game mean nothing, we've had the data for loads of old things leftover in-game, like the Light/Dark stones for Reshiram and Zekrom and other shit like that.

I'd want it reworked in some way. Even if it's just lower the stats a bit and say fuck it some pokemon have 4 regular evolutionary stages now.

I'm not really a fan of how it works in gen 6.

Becoming a permanent evolution is a nerf in its own right, it seems. Some Megas rely on their regular forms being around for a bit before kicking into overdrive.

I want them back. Z-moves can go to heck though. Also, I find it interesting that a lot of pokemon who had megas are getting new learnable moves that make sense for their megas. Like Lopunny learning close combat, which is actually a move I've been wanting on Mega Lop to give it a more reliable fighting STAB in doubles.

Even at the height of Mega Evo "power creep" Landorus and (normal SB) Blaziken were still caving assholes in for the entire meta. Megas gave options, that's it. Yes, certain megas like Rayquaza are fucking retarded but when they get like that they just get banned, so who cares.

I've thought for a while that they were going to bring back Z-moves in Isle of Armor and Megas in Crown Tundra, based solely on coincidences, guesses, and wishful thinking.

Something I should point out about Megas.They got added into LGPE and even made easier to use while Z-moves got effectively scrapped being forced onto the partner Pokemon that isn't even transferable. Seeing how they're really trying to connect mobile to the main games, I'd say Megas returning is a matter of "when", not "if".

I mean, I guess if you really wanted to look throughout the franchise, then there's stuff like new Mega Evo figures being released, Masters giving Cynthia of all people a Mega Evo, the new Mystery Dungeon also using Megas, and so on.

This article is incredibly misleading, they keep data for literally every item that has ever existed in the games, including shit like the Red Chain.
If anything Mega Slowbro's entry in HOME's TR/TM listing being scrapped, likely to make room for Galarian Slowbro, is indication that they don't have plans to bring megas back in the near future in mainline games.

I don't know. Game Freak is unpredictable. I didn't enjoyed Sinnoh too much but it could be a great adition to a remake. Battle Frontier + Mega evolutions. Many Sinnoh pokemon could be really great in competitive if megas return. Magmortar, Electrivire, the starters, not heatran, the lake trio, etc etc...

It would nerf Mawile's free intimidate, and kinda nerf Gyardos but he doesn't get stealth rocked as hard, but I know Sableye had some gimmick to transform later to get advantage of prankster but I'm unsure whatever it was

You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Sharpedo and Slowbro both rely heavily on their non-mega abilities to be able to function, but most Megas still often make use of their default form's ability.

Manectric, Houndoom, Abomasnow, Gardevoir, Altaria, Banette, and Lopunny all use their immunity granting abilities to get free switch-ins.
Pinsir, Mawile, and Metagross use their abilities to avoid Intimidate.
Mawile, Gyarados, and Salamence use Intimidate to set up more easily.
Pinsir, Gyarados, and Salamence use Moxie to snowball.
Heracross often uses Guts to freely switch into a Will-o-Wisp or Scald, tank a burn, and then simply click Close Combat without ever megaing.
Sableye uses Prankster to get off priority wisps against threatening physical attackers.
Absol uses Justified to get attack boosts.
Alakazam uses Magic Guard to avoid hazard damage.
Banette uses Frisk to scout items.

Gyarados, Pinsir, and Charizard also often play mindgames thanks to their type-changing megas, like predicting an enemy EQ with Charizard and so staying unmega'd to get off a free Dragon Dance.

Because mega blastoise was outclassed by keldeo, rotomw, and manaphy, and was easily checked and forced out by mons like rotomw. I can count several pokemon brought out of absolute irrelevance by mega evolutions while the national dex was a thing.

Eternatus is linked to the red chain item that Cyrus uses, they also hinted at “underground dens”, and eternatus crashed in a huge meteor (Mt Coronet has a huge meteor crash spot)

Dynamax and power spots will be in the reimagined Sinnoh TL and pokes like Garchomp, Luxray Sinnoh starters etc will get gmax’s and certain areas as well as parts of Mt Coronet will get treated as wild areas

It was discovered in Kalos originally.
And I mean if we're really talking about what is or isn't limited to a region, then Mega Evolution wasn't actually given that "only this region" treatment like Z-Moves and Dynamax were. As a side bonus, you even got Mega Evolution in LGPE, which basically to get phonefags' feet wet to them and only really them.

Dynamax and Gigantamax don't change typing or ability, all they do is double the Pokemon's HP and give them all broken moves. There's much less flexibility there.

To be fair Dynamax isn't a uniform increase in strength because of how the different Max Moves work. For example, anything with Flying STAB is much stronger than the average Dynamax Pokemon because Max Airstream is the strongest move. As are Swift Swim/Sand Rush users since they get an easy way to set up their weather.
