They're not bad, per se. They're just ignoring the developer's intent. If they wanted to give us whole pokémon, they would have (can actually see them adding the fronts of the two back end pieces, the backs of the two front pieces and not letting them match up to make a whole set mind), if they wanted mimikyu to have different costumes, they'd have bullshitted up an excuse, but wanted to tie back to Pikachu's real world popularity for the 20 years of the franchise by having it copy it instead and that they scrapped their design for a slowbroder, they admitted it didn't fit within their design restrictions enough to truly be its own version of Shellder.

This, in lore we're to assume that Pokemon like Lucario are well known but not necessarily super popular. You don't have to think it in terms of irl shilling/popularity, instead think game wise which Pokemon are the cutest, which Pokemon Mimikyu would want to disguise as in an attempt to get the same reception those beloved Pokemon do.

Isn't that kind of what happened with Exeggutor? I seem to recall them saying at one point that the Alolan form is its natural appearance, and the "original" form is a result of it being imported to colder regions.

I don't understand why people think this is a bad thing. If anything it completes the reference. Dinosaur reconstructions got better over time in real life, so the discovery of the completed fossils would parody that.

Try again faggot. Oh wait, here's an idea, they should look like mismatched halves of creatures that look like being in immense suffering due to being incompatible bits of animals reanimated. Looks like Game Freak got it spot on, considering the talk f the board when they eventually got revealed was how they were outright abominations (as well as being a nice reference to the early days of palaeontology, where everyone and their brother was trying to trick the scientific community with fossils).
