Heavily yes. it's just the culmination of it being shown preferential treatment throughout the series, though, like Charizard Fly in SM and two Megas in XY.

How many other Pokemon have TWO mega evolutions? Only one that comes to mind is Mewtwo.

Charizard was heavily shilled in Gen1, Gen2, Gen5 and Gen6.
Charizard is the only Pokemon that got 3 fucking anime for it and the only starter with 2 megas and a Gigantamax form and the only starter that works as pokeride and has a bridge named after him and used by 2 Champions (Lance and Leon)
