Remember when people thought Dawn's Piplup was so iconic they couldn't promote it without using Dawn? Instead the writers just gave her Piplup's personality into the one from Movie 20 and the one from episode 8 of this series with new trainers. Doesn't bode well for a Dawn return, especially if the girl from episode 8 becomes a recurring character.

I feel like outside of Misty/Brock and whoever the most recent companions are, everyone in the middle winds up forgotten. I don't think May, Dawn (or Iris) will appear this saga, and once Serena and the SM cast get too old the same will happen to them.

Apparently Silver has appeared in one of the Japanese openings so he's sorta canon. I doubt he'll appear though, unless they decide to explore Giovanni's character in the Ashnime. The higher Rocket admins have a higher chance of appearing I think. I'd still prefer some action from Domino and agent Pierce.

Misty wasn't forgotten; they had specials dedicated to her during AG just in case May didn't work out. Once the latter succeeded, Misty was quietly phased out due to the fact that she simply wasn't needed any more. It wasn't until 2017 when they brought her back alongside Brock for anniversary reasons.

I'm still kinda surprised Misty didn't get a cameo in DP. Yeah back then they only brought back the previous character, but at the time there was no pattern and Misty could have easily appeared for 2-3 episodes in late DP. They even put Misty in the second DP opening and she has no appearance the entire saga.

Still find it funny to this day Dawn and Misty never met, making that whole scene with the lure pointless.

There was more realism in Ash and Misty interaction than Ash and Serena. Only a neet who never interacted with a girl would think Ash and Serena interaction to be realistic since it fits his fantasy.

Died because some executive decided to make the series more edgy and serious like Gegege No Kitaro and XY/XY&Z series. Youkai Watch could have last longer as a gag anime like Crayon Shin-chan or Doraemon.

That was executive meddling. Ash winning a league wouldn't be suitable at that time from the executives' point of view, so they needed Ash to lose the league. Everything else added by the writers is canon...I mean, that's like, obvious. That's the way ALL shows work. When something is added by the wroter to the script and it's carried out, it becomes canon. Arguing otherwise is just stupid. Also in Japanese anime the MC never gets the girl he wants(Naruto, Bleach, Digimon). Ash wanted Giselle, so he most likely won't marry her. Ash doesn't want Serena, so there's a big chance of them getting together. This is some sort of weird morale the Japanese are trying to push in anime/manga that "perfect romance doesn't exist".

Again trying to shove headcanon about Japan or anime without any actual knowledge since Nobita had a crush on Shizuka and he married her (Doraemon), Keita had a crush on Fumi and he married her (Youkai Watch), Dan had a crush on Runo and they were officially a couple (Bakugan) Ranma like Akane and their pairing was canon (Ranma 1/2) etc etc. Plenty of MC on anime does ends up with the girls they likes

Kanto, DP, and XY are the best series, but SM is pretty good too if you like slice of life. AG is fairly average and is mostly liked for May but it doesn't quite hit the highs of every other series.

The XY anime was almost the pinnacle of the anime. It's only real flaws are:

- Ash really needed to beat Alan in the league. It almost single handedly destroyed the development leading up to it

- Serena's role/goal could have started earlier, like around XY30 instead of XY60.

All of them are flaws, the reason that you don't acknowledge them because you just want an anime with love interest and Sakuga.

For example, if any anime decide to have duel protagonist than they at least has to make sure that both of those protagonists are treated fairly unlike your precious XY&Z that one sidedly favor Alain over Ash no matter how many mistake that Alain made. Yet you can't acknowledge something as blunt flaw as a flaw because XY&Z has Serena in it.

Its like the mindset Peter Ratri from "The Promised Netherland" who thought its okay to betray your friends and have their children raised as the livestocks for Demon as long as he can see himself and his family as heroes.

There's nothing wrong with his team. If anything GameFreak should be blamed for a shallow Kalos dex that introduced 33 fully evolved Pokemon. More Megas were introduced than Pokemon.
Prior to Kalos Ash only had unevolved mons for Dragons. Yes the Dragon type was 'nerfed' therefore making it acceptable for him to use them, but it was still a step up from older seasons.

Also other than maybe Aegislash, there's not much else for Ash to get from Kalos. And the writers usually avoid pokemon like Aegislash for main characters because it doesn't really have a face and is an object pokemon.

Every series post-DP is like that though. The continuity era only existed with OS/AG/DP. Just because we saw Dawn/Charizard in BW and then Misty/Brock in SM for a small handful of eps doesn't make them fully connected.

Furthermore, people were already angry with Iris catching and keep a Dragonite despite lacking the qualification. XY decided to make them feel even worst by having Ash catch a Goomy only to release it as soon as its evolves to a Goodra, Then they allow a rookie like Sawyer to keep a Salamence while Alain gets two pseudo legendary Pokemon.

Basically establishing that anybody can have Pseudo-legendary & Mega evolved pokemon as long as he or she is not Ash.

One last thing on my ramble when it comes to mixed messages.

I'm more a Pokéshipper than Amourshipper, but I find it fishy that PDA (Serena kissing Ash) is just too risque for TV yet you can have a spa episode in SM.

Kind of like the more intense anime. Pervy humor is wholesome, but PDA is the height of indecency. Only few reasons I can guess for it:

1. Mind you I can get envious with it being a single guy, but it seems like a case where the rules were conceived by someone not so lucky.

2. Like my earlier assessment (such as people being fine with kid characters being subjected to life threatening perils, but draw the line at puppy love) it seems like another "relationships are a man trap". Nothing wrong for people who prefer being single or uncommitted, just that one should own it rather than acting like it's bad entirely.

3. Virtue signaling. I mean PDA and drug possession (like the narrator of the 3rd Pikachu short) being the worst offensive despite lack of concern over harassment/bullying.

I think they went as far as it they could go for a kids anime, it felt like May and Drew were written as young teenagers (like around 13-14 year olds) than 10 year olds. Their interactions don't resemble kids and there was mutual interest by the end.

Serena's goal technically started during the training camp when she learned about TriPokalons, and early on her thing was "trying to find what she wanted to do by doing new things", like doing Pokevision and the Macaron contest.

Ash did need to win the league, that is the truth however. Now we're stuck with what feels like 2 apology series where they have no idea what they want to do.

Knowing what we could have had if Ash had won the Kalos League hurts so much.

There is a line that kids anime never meant to cross. There is nothing wrong with puppy love but the issue is how the "Puppy Love" being executed in the anime since Amour felt less like a childish puppy love and more like outright Lust.

Imagine a parents point of view if their 10 year old girl kissed some random kid on the mouth and revolve her life around him because that's what Serena from Pokemon anime taught her to do.

After all, I also find Serena to be beautiful which is why infuriating how the anime wasted her character and handled her crush in such a disgusting way that's it hard to support Amour.

I fucking miss old /padt/. The one we have now is like a pale shadow of its older self. Now the only things keeping the thread alive are Famon being autistic as usual and shitposters trying to start a flamewar with every post. Where did go the days when we could talk whole Tuesday about some minor DP plot or how last episode's minor detail could lead to something bigger. For fucks sake, I miss the old times, visiting /padt/ was actually fun back then, now it is bearable only when new episode airs and the activity is not even close to 10% of what we had before. My problem with recent seasons is how inactive the female companions are. Koharu barely appears, Lillie got a lot of focus at first then stopped after the first year, Mallow got too little, Lana was ok for the type of saga SM was, and Serena took a year to get started.

Hell even before that you can say Iris only got marginally a bit more screentime than Misty and was a step down from Dawn's co-star role.

one of the reasons why I dont think any series will ever top DP for me
it wasnt just DP, it was also the finale of the fully connected OS-DP, the Brock era, that "first" Ash era etc.
OS and AG definitely enhance DP and DP gives them a good finale (well, barring Tobias asspull lol .. but beating Paul/Chimchar "redemption", the goodbyes in Sinnoh etc., Ash imagining himself in a "distant finale" fighting Cynthia in Flints place - all great)

DP barely has any filler overall. Johto, AG and BW (if you count the last half of it) all have the most amount of filler episodes.

XY being only 3 years inevitably means less fillers, most of it was during the first two Gyms but it decreased onward.

By my logic, you would want to see how Ash develops and grows to face that challenge. You would also want to see all the other challenges he needs to face along the way. I feel like this is basic storytelling.

Because he has 1k+ episdes of character growth behind him. He is now a developed character and he is like that for some time now. The only thing which can give doubts to Ash is someone questioning his training methods, be it Paul in DP or he himself in XY.

Couldn't the "Get Pikachu" title mean either Goh's going to catch a Pikachu, or that Pikachu ends up leaving Ash's Pokemon team and becoming 1 of Goh's newest Pokemon party additions? That would make way for Riolu to become Ash's main partner and for Satoshi to have Grookey on his team, and maybe Mr. Mime stays in Pallet Town which also makes it possible that this time Dusk Lycanroc will come back with Ash when he visits the Alola region at a later date! What are the odds/%'s of one of these 2 plots happening?

That was before BW series.
As long as Best Wishes begun, Ash wasn't allow to win against any strong trainer outside gym leaders.

XY and XY&Z didn't changed a thing, instead the anime made Ash act like some generic protagonist from Fantasy RPG that are followed by his personal group of admirer to trick people into him to be strong than he wasn't strong at all.

If there's a Gen 9 anime after this Pokemon anime is over and done with, what game/anime elements would you guys want to have come back? What rivals? Would you watch the anime if gym battle were reintroduced and the main story continued? I'd like for the anime to have the same animation art style used to make XY + no slapstick humor except for the occasional comedic moment every few episodes...
I'd also like for the Pokemon Co. to separate Ash's and Goh's adventures into 2 seperate series; Goh's adventures for ages 5-10, and Ash's adventures for the viewers who have been fans of the franchise for a long time!

Mimey is Ash's mom's pokemon so I don't think Ash has the justification for trading it.

If Ash's Pikachu ends up being traded to Go for some reason, I think that might legitimately kill the Anime series dead in Japan. Emphasis on "I think". I don't really know, nor do I really want to get into it.

I liked watching him in XY since he was awesome, but after S&M made him forget his best move, the Electro Sphere and replace it with Electroweb, he wasn't so awesome anymore. I believe that if Riolu replaces Pikachu as Ash partner Pokemon and goes with Goh, it might become an indication that the anime will be split into 2 seperate series. The 1st series would be about Goh's adventures that would be for new and upcoming young fans and viewers, because let's face it, Pikachu was and is cute and popular with the younger audiences of the past and present. The other anime series would continue the main story where Ash hopefully gets aged by a few years and he would continue his dream/goal to become a Pokemon Master with his new partner: Riolu/Lucario. As you know, Lucario is the 2nd most popular Pokemon in the world with Gekkouga being #1, so I think this plot would revitalize the series to the point that the series would regain more of the popularity it once had. Aren't there many of you who wanted Ash to get a Riolu/Lucario in previous episodes from other Gens after watching the Lucario movie and Riolu/Lucario episodes from DP?

She kept Ash's ego on the line, lead the group out sunken S.S.Anne, convinced a giant Tantacruel to stop destroying a city, Stop Brock from embarrassing himself, looked after poisoned Ash & Tracey and found the Antidote from them, saved Ash from Drowning etc etc.

Raboot wasn't really interested in battle, it just worries about Pikachu but too tsundere to show it.

However Goh's Scyther, it really really wants to battle and trains everyday to battle. Its almost like he was caught by the wrong trainer.
