If people were expecting a full open world Pokémon game for Gen 8, they are crazy. We had 2D for 5 generations. Regardless of how much money they have, it’s probably management that is the issue. Masuda or whoever is probably adamant on the way things are done hence why the games look “rushed” or “lazy”. Maybe GF is afraid to transition to an open world style game?

Not OP, but for me, a major complaint is egg moves from raids being 100% gone forever if you don't breed it down or transfer it to a partner at the nursery. The way they programmed it doesn't let the move appear at the move relearner if you delete it.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't get the shitstorm that happened over this. The game literally opens up with the pokemon world equivalent of youtube being displayed with Leon's match against Raihan as the video. Seems obvious the credits was also based on that.

What Pokémon fans are good at is misrepresenting arguments and criticism in order to downplay it or attack those who are critical of the franchise. Case in point, they think that people are complaining about this cursor or the ugly tree textures in a vacuum, but the point is that the game is fundamentally of low quality all throughout, and that the cursor is an example that's representative of the rest of the game.

That goes the other way too though. People are quick to call people who like SwSh shills or say they aren't real fans because they just like anything with Pokemon in it. It's almost impossible to talk positively about Gen 8 here without unrelated complaints being brought up.

Xenoblade X was made on shoestring budget by a C-tier developer, on a dying console, being forced to rewrite the entire story halfway through development to shoehorn online functionality by Nintendo, and yet it still ended up with more content and polish than every single Pokemon game released after it combined. And that's even considering Gen 7 alone is 70% of the polish and 95% of the content

Gen 7 had double the roster, way more locations, 90% of the side features that aren't raids or curry, megas, z-moves, Return, Pursuit, Hidden Power, Ominous Wind, Silver Wind, Mud Bomb, Water Sport, Karate Chop, Bone Club, Magnitude, an actual story, etc.

The only thing Gen 8 has over Gen 7 is 83 new Pokemon, but it's also missing 400-odd Pokemon that Gen 7 has instead.

Megas and z-moves, no, but Return, Pursuit, and Hidden Power, yes. Magnezone can't even kill Ferrothorn anymore, one of the main Pokemon it's supposed to trap, and getting rid of Return nerfs Normal types, one of the 5 weakest types in the game, along with Ice, Poison, Dragon, and Bug.

Not to mention Pursuit killing off Tyranitar.

Don't forget the main game is such a rush it crams the bulk of the "story" into the final battles, yet the rest of the game is go city - fight gym - lore exposition with Sonia, routes are extremely short and devoid of pokémon trainers because of the broken exp share, the wild area is completely uninteresting yet terribly implemented, weather is 100% random between sections and pokémon are tied to them, you can have hail - sun - thunderstorm - sandstorm active within seconds of walking.

It allows Ferrothorn to set up hazards unchecked, because even if you switch in one of the things it's supposed to counter, it just ends up KO'ing the "counter". Removal of Hidden Power only hurt Pokemon with already poor movesets, it did nothing to help Pokemon otherwise. Now Lilligant, for example, only has Grass type moves, and can't do anything to hurt Dragon/Fire/Grass/Steel/Poison/Flying types.

None of them, other than Snorlax, would've used Return anyways, and now Snorlax is forced to run Body Slam instead of Return, hurting an already bad Pokemon.

Doubles weren't invented until Gen 3, and even when they were adopted as the premier format for VGC in Gen 4, it was laughed at. No one good at the game takes doubles seriously, it's a meme format like Triple or Rotation battles.
