Don't get me wrong: I'm in no way trying to say that GameFreak has this covered. The Dexit disaster is a huge black mark on the franchise that needs to be reversed, and the reason for the cut, that being the higher quality models and animations, doesn't hold water. I like to give GF the benefit of the doubt and assume they weren't outright lying about having to create new models for SwSh when it's clearly apparent that they just imported the SuMo models, but rather they're trying to cover general incompetence and bad planning and resource management.
The topic of this thread is "how do we fix the animation problem", and the *ultimate* answer is "Effort" no matter what the actual method is. But part and parcel with that answer is determining what form this effort should come in and how it would be achieved. If GF can't handle building better animations with their current team in their current timeline they need to either expand their team or lengthen the timeline. Or, you know, the answer is "they can't, abandon ship" which isn't a very fun answer and doesn't make for a very good thread.
I just wanted to share a gameplan that would allow GF to streamline the process; The 7 week timeline is based on extreme dedication to a single project, but even if it took five times as long because the team was smaller or the process took longer it's still well within a yearly release schedule. It's feasible, it simply requires effort and manpower, which one would think is within reach of a billion dollar game franchise.
One would also think that this kind of animation plan would be relatively future proofed, but that's what they said about SuMo's models and we know how that turned out.
