I dont think they come better than Alder. He's got a great design, he's an experienced adventurer, he's got a great attitude towards life, and even after he retires from the League he makes sure to stick around and mentor young trainers. He even shows up in the PWT, and in place of 4 of his signature pokemon he uses the ace's from each Unovan elite 4 member, which is a really nice touch. People usually think of Cynthia or Blue when you talk about Champs, but Alder is the only one that really has an attitude and appearance that reflects his job.
