The name thing(agaTHA, berTHA) is present in the JP ver too, and it may be even more blatant(Kikuko/Kikuno), so I'd say something is definitely implied

There's probably something up. Pokemon Masters is probably the most likely place to explore it, but Bertha isn't available there yet.
