The animations were reused from a N64 game, the mons look like plastic, there's no content, the attacks are too slow, the attack effect are samey and the announcer is annoying.

Actually the thing I didn’t like was the lack of a good pool of rental Pokémon. Nintendo EAD should have never stopped making Pokémon games. Still an enjoyable game when you link your own Pokémon into the game.

I didn’t have a Wii and fell out of Pokémon after Emerald and didn’t get back in until after HGSS. I have no clue what this game is like.

It was still really fun, I mainly used it as a dppt wireless multi battle "simulator" with my brother and two other friends.

There was something special about the massive stadium and realistic models, including properly scaled legendaries, when compared to motionless sprites and hp bars dropping at two pixels per second. We would also call out moves and narrate the battles like a football game, good times.

All my good mons were transferred to 5th gen and beyond, so I’m trying to Ev train a bunch of new Pokémon to play this again... but Ev training and move set building is a grueling process in gen 4...

They did it because the Japanese version of PBR didn't even have alternate skin tones, while it was added in the international versions.
Similarly, Japanese PBR didn't even have widescreen and left most of the Gen 1-2 cast's models identical to their N64 counterparts. All localization additions.
